Andy,
Since you do have an in with a local bbl mfgr, why not a .243 win? Excellent ballistics, plenty of factory ammo. No need to load your own.
Assuming you haven't selected a chamger, yet, of course.
Just sayin'

Andy
You said in an earlier post in this thread that my barrel was about to ship. I have heard nothing more about my barrel. Do you know what happened?
John

for new build ideas every time I look at the shell holder for the 6.5 Grendell sitting in my 357mag die box I start to think 125gr jhp 14.5" barrel +10,000psi a good bit more case capacity. How fast would it go wold this be the gun to replace my 30-30 as a front door gun.not sure where it would come in compared to a 357 max.

Maybe if you turned the rims down it would be fine but rimmed and auto-load just have issues when mixed together. Or are you talking a 357 Grendel? One thing to look at is a slick 125 grain 6.5 will go a lot further and faster with more energy than a flying square faced pistol bullet. Maybe a 30 Herret derivative would be doable. Who can tell what the future holds. Of course if you have the $$'s lots of neat things have been built in home shops. Greg PS: Here is a 357 HERRET out of a 14" tube. 125 GR. HDY JHP IMR IMR 4198 .357" 2.080" 31.0C 2135 38,100 CUP

My thought was 357. Grendel that would reach the end of my drive way. Make me grab a real gun for the end of the road.It just continues as a theme due to the common shell holder.

Here is a cartridge to think about. Its a 35X6.8 I have been thinking about doing it. I am still waiting for BHW to make some 35 cal barrels. This would be legal in Indiana, under the new firearm laws.

I like this idea a lot better than the thought of building a big and heavy 450 bushmaster or 458 socom. I would imagine it would have better ballistics than the 357 maximum. Which every says is good to about 225 yards Brian

AS far as the range you are after the 450 WILL do it. Sight it in 2" high at 100. You will be 8" low at 200. That is at 2000 FPS using a 250 gr. bullet. Easy to do with a 16 inch barrel.
As for the 35X6.8 I am having second thoughts about it. The case would have to be improved to have enough shoulder to head space off of. As far as speed it would be in the 2300-2400 fps with a 200 gr bullet.

What about using a 308 case cut down to 1.75 or 1.8"? In the 35 cal still. There are some smiths doing that calling it the 358 Hoosier. I think hornady is making dies for it too. Brian

Would an ar10 bolt work in an ar15 bcg? That would make that part easy if it would.
