Great idea but no one can keep up with mainstream chamberings at this time. Dedicating a machine to marginal demand items does not make economic Greg I forgot to mention, I have no clue on the machine costs, piece rate, or demand of the sub caliber guns but i am sure if would make economic since there would be more barrel plants all over. Lowers must be simple stupid to manufacture because it seems like there is another mfg every week. Hrll I know a bow company that is making AR parts now (it is an Indiana company) I was talking with someone at the shop today and they said that the gun manufacturing business is so up and down that it doesn't sustain building a larger facility. I was told by my LMT rep they are running around the clock but the longest they had done this before was 3 months. Too bad you can't jump in and out of the mfg business

Great idea but no one can keep up with mainstream chamberings at this time. Dedicating a machine to marginal demand items does not make economic sense if you can sell 20 223's for every 17 whatever at the current time a smart guy follows the money. I finally got a 17/223 last year on a whim. Neat little round but the 20 is as small as I want to go. I have five 20's and only want one more. I even thought about the HM2 but came to my senses. LOL Greg What is your favorite 20? I have stuck a 20 practical in the back of my mind for a feature build but haven't dug into it too much. The use of 223 brass, bcg, and mags are tempting as well. I have a 204 in a bolt gun but haven't even found time to shoot it to see how it shoots. I had a tc barrel in 204 and that was fun but I got tired of not having a repeater. The hm2 is an odd duck now as far as factory guns now. I know you can convert a 10/22 to one without much trouble but I would assume you.had a gun in mind when you were thinking of it. One of the guns I would like to find without paying an arm and leg for is a 10/22 magnum, but those bring good money for a cheap gun. 20 Practical hands down. I hvae three 204's a Prac and a Tac. They al shoot the same for speed within a few FPS but the PRACTICAL is so much easier to make. All of them are easy sub-MOA shooters with a decent load. They hammer PD's like no ones business and are very unfriendly to crows!! LOL The 204 in an AR is a waste of money IMHO. Too long and limiting thanks to the magazine issues. Also on an AR 20 no matter what the flavor run an adjustable gas block for more powder choices. Cheap 22 Magnum? Don't tell that to my 10-22. I'll dig up a pic when I can. (not a stocker) Greg

Greg
You know what I mean, The stock ones were at one time but now they are usually 700 for a beat up pos. I was looking at the Magnum research but just haven't wanted to spend the money on that. I have been having fun building other stuff. I was talking with some guys at the shop today about the 20 prac and I might get him to build one, after all I did order him a lower and some other parts that he doesn't have a barrel for either. Greg do you like the 24" in prac? Or what is your preferred length in this one. It wouldn't be a chasing coyote with dogs gun, more like p dog or groundhogs since pdogs aren't out the back door I was thinking thinking 20 or 22" but could be convinced pretty easy. Brian

Brian
I know you asked Greg about this but I can give you the same answer he would. I can say without question 24 inch barrels are the way to go for a 20 Practical. The Velocity is what makes them so deadly. The way to get velocity is barrel length, plain and simple. 4000 FPS is an every day occurrence with 32 and 35 grain bullets. With a 10 twist you will also be able to shoot everything up to the 50 grains.

I bought 2 of them and they are screamers 4000-4150 with the 32's and 3750-3900 with the 40's is what i am getting with 1/2" to 3/4" 5 shot groups at 100

Rich and biggdog thanks, you confirmed what I was thinking and what I figured Greg would say, now I'll see if I can get three of them for the order.
