What I'm concern about is reliability and accuracy in that order. I have read in a few instances the 243LBC (264LBC) has some feeding issues mainly caused by cartridge geometry and sucky magazines. The 6x6.8 looks more stream-lined, thus less susceptible to miss-feeds or jams... but my logic may not be as spot on as I think, so I am open for suggestions.
If you were starting from scratch; you have no reloading components but you're ready to start gathering all needed for reloading, which one would you choose and why? I'm particularly interest in input from people who have experience (fired, handle) with both cartridges.
Thanks, gents.

I'm particularly interest in input from people who have experience (fired, handle) with both cartridges. Thanks, gents. Would you be interested in some input from the guy who designed both reamers? Both cartridges have merits of their own. The 243 LBC will handle the bigger bullets because of case length. But as you mentioned it can have feeding problems. I have to throw this in, once you get the kinks worked out it will feed flawlessly. The other problem with the LBC is head thrust. The LBC is limited to 52,000 PSI and should be held to that limit. Bolt failure is a common occurrence if fed a steady diet of over pressure loads, brass life will also suffer. Now for the good points of the 243 LBC. The chamber is as tight as possible to increase accuracy. The case is inherently an accurate design, and it will handle the heavy bullets. The chamber from Black Hole has a VLD lead. Brass from Lapua is as good as it gets. The 6X68 was done because I was looking for a cartridge to shoot the lighter weight bullets with good accuracy. It was intended from the start to be a hunting round. It was after the reamer was done we found out just how good of a cartridge it really is. It will handle all the 6mm bullets, but is at it's best with 90 grains and below. Case capacity is the same as the LBC but because it can take the higher pressures velocities increase with the 6X68. The 6.8 case feeds like a 5.56 so failure to feed problems are rare. The accuracy and velocity from this case was better than expected. As far as a hunting cartridge it is a hit. My son killed a Pronghorn this year at 646 yards with a 6X68.

I have shot them both extensively at distance. (500) Ritch is dead on. BTW with an adjustable gas block you make reliability with various ammo a slam dunk.

Wow, it sounds better than what I thought possible. What about the infamous barrel length topic? 6.8SPC was designed to perform out short barrels, will the 6x6.8 perform just as well out of an 16" or 18".

[/quote] I keep hearing that about the 16 inch barrel. But every time I shoot a 20 inch 6.8 the velocity is always higher than what a 16" barrel will give. Hmmmmm go figure. The 6X68 is like every other rifle out there. Barrel length give you speed, plain and simple. The rifle my son was shooting has a 22 inch barrel. The rifle I hunt coyotes with has a 16" barrel each has its own purpose. But I am giving up about 200 FPS with the 16" barrel.

On the feeding issue I shoot with a guy that wears out Ar's, barrels receivers bolt stops trigger groups. He has them in 243win 22-250, 6.8spcII and a gaggle of .223/5.56 types. I don't think he has the component issues I do as he seems to load test lots of 100 leaving no remainders. at any rate bullet shape of some HP rounds where giving him fits in a 6.8 a few weeks ago. ftf He found the solution was to seat deeper as the loading geometry would just not work at mag length. This is the same problem I had with the .243LBC I was tempted to accept having to load the first round by pulling back the charging handle. until it was pointed out to the Marine Corps side of my brain that coyotes don't have optical comparators and statistical analysis to figure out if they are dead. So I accept the imaginary group size penalty for perfect cycling. Further playing shows that the first 3 rounds cut the 1/2" dot at 191yards any way. if I shoot at the wrong place 3 times maybe its not the gun.
Paul
P.S. Some day I would like to know I can shot a gun to its potential not mine.

I have the 6x6.8 22" bbl,. I built the upper and it runs everything I shoot through it flawlessly, never a FTF/FTE/or any other brass issue. It took me a bit to find the right load I needed for coyote and due to no load data took a lot of tinkering for my usages. I ran it to 400 yards Sunday and hit the 12x12 plate 15 out of 15 times in a slight breeze of 16mph at a 90* angle, holding 24" into the wind and 1.5 mils up. I was happy about that. I was having issues with accuracy from the start, but have since worked those out as of last week. I have seen & shot the 243lbc at the range from others who have them and have only seen 1 of the 3 out there run like mine, perfectly BUT I cannot say what the other problems are. I tried to help one shooter out as I though his load was to light, but he didn't want to listen or take any guidance. I started from 0 on a new 6mm build and didn't even give the 243lbc a though since I had read more issues than good while the 6x6.8 ran more good than anything else, even though you don't see a ton of posts from 6x6.8 users w/the exception of a few here.

Congratulations on getting a handle on your 6X68 accuracy. The 6X68 will be faster because it runs at higher pressures. The LBC may be a bit more accurate because of case design but neither will be true BR level. The LBC has a case that cannot on the surface run as well but it doesn't take much to fix that. My six LBC uppers have run 100% from day one as have my seven 6.8 based guns. Luck of the draw might be at work but Ritch has some magic when he builds mine. It seems like many of the guys that shoot either aren't big on posting up their loads and targets. The majority that do show up illustrate how well these barrels shoot baring the oddballs. I know there are some barrel guys that get posted ups and many of them brag about a 1.5" target if they shoot them consistently. I would be embarrassed if that was all my barrels would do and to have a cult following is beyond me. Without a doubt given a fellow that can shoot these will make an adverage guy look good a a great shooter look world class. The others? Not so much. Greg
