I have two 25x45 BHW barrels coming and I was wondering if the 25-45 Sharps RCBS Small base die set would work with these barrels. The 25-45 Sharps is supposed to have a case head 2 thousands larger that the 5.56 but RCBS small base dies are 2 thousands under which should be like running a standard die on the 5.56. I run standard dies on my 5.56 AR with good luck. I believe the Sharps is 1 thousands under at the start of the shoulder but with a tight chamber that should not be a problem. Does any body see a problem with running this set up.

I have all the part numbers for doing the redding. The die body is back ordered until June. This is in stock and should be quick and easy. I will let you know how it goes when I get the barrels in a couple months. I ordered in mid December. I don't know how long the custom barrels take but I am figuring on mid March.

Sounds like a good deal. Have you checked with the boys at ARFCOM for dies? They are hot on the 25X45 over there. They think it is the Second Coming of Godzilla. Greg PS: Welcome to the board.

I just sized my fired brass with both the 25-45 sharps dies and my home made redding dies and the measured cases when done were identical. I think either will work just fine.

So I popped and ordered one of the 25-45 barrels on sale. Are the chambers cut differently from the Sharps company barrel? I looked at CH4D and they showing 25-223 aka 25-45, wonder if those gonna work

Hint...Nothing Escapes a Black Hole. The 25X45 is a SAAMI'd cartridge. The chambers must be the same if industry standards are followed as BHW does. Those dies seem to work well as both Ritch and I use them. Greg

Alright then. I'm a believer in BHW barrels , have several in the safe now and thought I'd try the 25-45 out. Love my 243 and 264 lbc'so, did a 308b and a 6.5 creedmoor. One other thing, I read about a discount being a forum members but how do you apply that in the checkout?

So what is the work around for the 223 type s die? Is it just a different expander and a different bushing? Also, what is used as the seating die. I know for the 20 practical I just use my 204 Ruger seating die because I have it. Thank you.

I use a Hornady 25 caliber seater. A 233 type S doesn't work. Many won't even let you do 24 caliber. I know a gunsmith that can open one up for a reasonable price. Greg

I had to drill out the die body or it would size the neck and not the bushing. I can't remember the bushing size at the moment, I want to say .273. The die body is very hard and a bear to drill. This setup will leave a couple thousands of an inch of the neck unsized right at the shoulder. This slight bulge you can see but not really feel never caused a problem chambering. With that said I now just use the 25-45 sharps dies. They are cheap and work perfectly, no dicking around.

That's the reason I know a smith. I load 30 ARX using a Grendel die that's been opened up. It was nicely done.
