Hello, I wanted to check with BHW to see if you guys have a thread protector to go with your 5.56 barrels that have the 1/2 x 28 threads. I know there are a variety of aftermarket knurled thread protectors out there like on Ebay but they all look like a retrofit. I'm want something that will match up nicely with a BHW barrel in terms of the black finish and proper outer diameter (i.e. not oversized) and has a smooth finish without the knurling. The look I am after is one where you can't even tell there is a thread protector there. Is this something that BHW can make? I don't yet have the 5.56 barrel so if BHW doesn't offer it, can I get some dimensions I can give a machinist to custom make one for me? The barrel is a standard profile 18" mid length gas barrel. 1) Barrel outer diameter (forward of the gas block) prior to threads is: .73" exactly? (want to make sure there is a flush fit and no over or under sizing relative to barrel diameter) 2) Distance from shoulder where threads start to end of muzzle is: (want to make sure protector is long enough to cover all threads without bottoming out and leaving a gap) Thanks much!

Sorry, Black Hole does not offer thread protectors. I would have one made as you described. I would use your barrel to measure the dimension's for the perfect fit you are looking for. Being off by only a .001 or 2 will show.

OK thank you for the information.
Did not know that such a small tolerance over-under would be visible.

OK thank you for the information. Did not know that such a small tolerance over-under would be visible. The eye can spot as little as 0.001 according to my machinist friends. I'm good at about 0.125. Apparently it follows along a straight path and the least variance just "registers" kind of like a painting is juts not quite straight. You notice it as soon as you walk into a room and just glance over at it. Greg
