I have a question about a fluting option on the BHW barrels website
For Twisted Fluting: In the picture on the website it appears that the barrel is twisted but then it appears to be fluted straight and then appears to twist again.
Is the final product, twist fluted completely down the barrel (skipping gas block area) or does it have straight fluting inter-mixed with the twisting?
Depending on the answer here, will let me know exactly what I order.
Also do they still do the 10% discount for forum members?
Thanks!

Fluting stops and starts at the gas block normally as you know. . It does appear that the twisty flute does stop and start mid pattern besides the gas block area. THere will not be any straight segements. I think the area you see that looks straight is the shoulder on the step down in frong of the GB. My latest barrels no longer have that step in place. The Twisted is one type I don't have on a barrel. I have the Smiley that is a solid continuous flute. They charge a separate fee for before and after the gas block. At this point the 10% discount is not on here. AR15ARMORY.com has one in place as does 68FORUMS.com That is a topic that will be addressed in the near future here. Keep us posted on your plans and ask away if you have any questions. Greg

So the smiley (one of the others I'm looking at) is continuous. Does it straighten at the ends like in the picture or end still twisting? I am going to get the standard profile 5.56 mid-length 16" barrel all black with twisting in front and behind the gas block to save weight. I'm just trying to figure out which fluting. I figured that if I'm fluting, I might as well get something that looks good too! I have liked the smiley since I saw it, but didn't like how it ended (looking at the pictures on the site). I appreciate all your help!

The smiley does have a short straight section at the front. Good choice for weight loss. I like how it looks. I'm considering a Savage barrel done up full length with it.

Alright, I made up my mind. After a few hours contemplating about what exactly I wanted and some input from my wife (the other shooter in the house), I finally bought the 5.56 16" mid-length standard profile all black with pentagonal fluting. We both liked both of the twisted style fluting, but decided the pentagon would look good as well.
here is the upper I am building:
Vltor MUR Receiver BHW Barrel Adams Arms XLP Mid-Length Piston JP Enterprise Enhanced Bolt Rainier Arms Raptor Charging Handle Smith Vortex FH or The Precision Reflex MSTN QC Brake (I haven't made up my mind yet on this yet. Depends on if I go featureless or not.) Samson 11" Evo Keymod Troy Flip Up Battle Sights Eventually the ACOG TA31RCOM4CP
I'll post pictures once complete.
Again, THANKS Greg for all of your help! You've been a huge help in the decision process for me!

I still have a couple parts to purchase yet but will post pictures once the rifle is complete.
Thanks goes to everyone who worked on my barrel and was able to get it shipped way before I thought it would be!
Yay! Come on Fedex get here already...
