I finished up my 264 LBC build a couple weeks ago and finally was able to take her out to the range last week. Her she is (need to come up with a name), 20" BHW barrel 1/8 twist. Type 1 Chamber Spikes lower CMMG LPK Timney 3#trigger Anderson upper, Nickle Boron Nitride Bolt Carrier, Tactical Ammunition Type 1 Bolt. Magpul STR Milspec stock, Milspec Buffer and tube with standard spring. Nikon Monarch 4-16 glass. 5/8-24 thread protector. Here is the problem, I was unable to get his thing to group worth a darn. A can get 2 very close then the next few will be 4 inches way. I purchased some Black Hills 123amax loads from Les Bear. I got a group of 4 within 1" but that was the best I could do. Here is a typical tgt. To be fair I did make and adjustment after the first 4 shots in the lower left. Still not what I was expecting. I did a break in as described, 5 shots clean for 60 rounds and this is what I am getting after 80. Can anyone make an educated swag as to what the problem might be?? I thought it might be a bolt carrier gas key problem. It seemed to be shifting. I bought a blemished bolt carrier and the key did not seem to fit as well as others. I went ahead and picked up a new complete bolt carrier group and changed out the bolt. Above was the first of 2 tgts. I have been pulling my hair out trying to figure this out. (and I don't have enough to spare) I re-torqued the barrel nut. Checked the scope and base for rigidity. I have been at a loss. I have the ability to make good groupings. Here's one from my 308 Help

Yes all the shots were Black Hills ammo loaded for LB. Also forgot to add shooting at 100yds.

I need to spill the beans here a little. I figured out what was wrong. I kind of feel like an idiot right now that it took so long. Spent $250 probably needlessly. I want to see if anyone can figure it out. I was surprised to say the least. I will post resolution later.

I do not want anyone from BHW to think it is their product. It is not the barrel for sure. I was actually heading that direction but I knew it would be taken care of if it was. I would like to let this go a little longer but... It was the thread protector. It was loose. I shot a second tgt the first 10 shots are all accounted for and all over the place like all the others before. After I removed the thread protector things tightened right up. Here is the second tgt, The final group is the upper right. Not bad for "Factory" ammo. I fired off those 5 fairly quickly just picked a spot on the tgt. Here is a caliper shot. Scope needs a final adjustment but I can live with .6" for now. Just need to work up a load and things will come together. I am a VERY happy camper now.. ETA; winds gusting 10-15mph from left rear. 85 degrees minor mirage.

Bad muzzle brake installation. I thought a loose barrel but you retorqued. Wrong bolt?
Greg
PS: l I posted this and had skipped over the reason. You had one of those antigroup tightening device. Anti-Boss so to speak.
PPS: Threaded barrels have their place but sometimes less is more.

I am intending to put a brake on it. My Class 3 dealer just received my 458 can and it will thread on the LBC just fine. But that may take a year . The thread protector is just knurled with no flats to wrench tighten. I will be milling a set of flats for it until I can get a muzzle device.

My 16 inch lite profile barrel shot great with a TP but didn't like an A2 or AAC 3 prong FH. Put a 3 port Vortex type MB on from AR performance and it went back to shooting in the .6's to .8's. The AAC type FH's usually shoot well on anything. Puzzled by it not liking the AAC but I'm glad I got the ARP Vortex. It works very well. Keeps the muzzle down and not too loud.
