Just placed an order for a barrel, and the only option regarding bolt type on line was "Type 1". Am I correct to assume that this is the same as a standard 7.62 x 39 bolt? If so are there any manufacturer's whose bolts are specifically recommended in terms of quality?

The scuttle-butt on the net says the ones from MODEL 1 SALES are GTG. I have one of theirs by coincidence and it runs fine. DON'T hot hod and you will do fine. None of us on here have ever broken a bolt and we have shot a few rounds between us. You might check Tactical Ammunition also as I have two of theirs in my rifles. Greg PS: Welcome to the board.

Thanks for responding. I ordered a 7.62 x 39 nickel boron bolt from Hamlund Tactical. I can see why you stick with Type 1 bolts...The others are quite a bit more difficult to find in stock. Can't wait for my barrel to arrive from BHW...

I got a Maxim 7.62x39 bolt with 9310 steel. I don't plan to load hot. Just want it to function well and keep running.

I hope it is current production. I didn't ask, yet it was listed as available and quick shipping right after the order. Only a few sources seem to have Type 1 (7.62x39) with 9310 grade steel.

Let us know how it looks. Truth be known if you load sanely they all do OK. I have seen lots more 556 bolts blown than 7.62's. Greg

Greg, I don't have any other 7.62 bolt to compare. Maybe you can tell which production? If these are good, maybe Maxim has some more in stock if someone needs the Type 1. BTW, I measured the bolt face depth. It's about .122 inches deep (Frankford Arsenal digital caliper).

I don't have a clue when yours was made. All I remeber is that eight months ago they said they weren't doing any in the near future. I guess they took care of the Grendel boys and decided to go on to the high demand group. They make good products so I would not be worried about that.

Thank you for looking at the bolt and confidence check on mfr quality. That is good steel. They make a lot of parts for people in the industry that you never hear about. Such is the AR15 parts supply world. Greg
