I am in the beginning stages of building a 264lbc for hunting and informal target shooting out to 600 yards. Intend to use a 20" BHW rifle length, standard profile barrel. Bullets to be used are Hornady 123gr AMAX. Which twist do I want, 1:8 or 1:9? Bill A. has suggested using a 1:9 for 20 inch and longer barrels but those were non polygonal rifled barrels. What is the concensus using 120-123gr pills and a 20" BHW barrel? Also, accuracy of 0.5 or better is of utmost importance me, should I go with a target crown or threads? If threads, can u suggest a muzzle device? Thanks

Personally I always go a twist faster than what I can do it with. The 1:9 will be perfectly fine for your needs. My 264 is a 1:8 but we shoot lots of 9's. The polygonal rifling is less pressure and velocites tend to be a bit higher. In the end a 1:9 is a 1:9 but we seem to be able to shoot heavier bullets at slower twists than some. That's just anecdotal observation on my part and I'm not going to spend $500.00 worth of barrels and components to prove it... Greg

I ordered a 1/8 for my BHW barrel and have been shooting great groups with 123 A-Max bullets

I think 1-8 is the route I am going to take. Seems most people are choosing this twist for their builds. Thanks everyone for your replies.
