I just seen that the website now offers a 6.5 Grendel. What is the difference from that to the .264 LBC? I purchased a type 2 tube years ago and that thing is ringing steel out to 500 yards at 2" groups. I am guessing that the main difference would be the bolt that mates to the barrels. Is the 264 LBC your everyday type 1 and the 6.5 Grendel the type 2 now? If so I thing I would change to the type 1 due to the type 2 being weaker. I have already broke the lugs on 2 bolts and those things are not cheap.

I have already broke the lugs on 2 bolts and those things are not cheap. There are several differences between the 264 LBC and the 6.5 Grendel. Everything is in the chamber dimensions. The Grendel has a .300 neck, the LBC is .295. The Grendel has a two step lead and typically a .080 free bore. The 264 LBC has a 1.5* lead and a free bore of around .168 The Grendel uses a bolt with a .136 recess. The 264 LBC can be had with either the .136 or a .125 bolt recess. If you have broken 2 bolts there is probably something going on other than weak bolts. This usually comes down to 2 solutions to the problem. Is your receiver square? This is the number one cause of bolt breakage, regardless of the chambering. The second is simply caused from pushing the cartridge beyond it's designed pressure limits. With the Grendel case if you go beyond it's limits you pay the price.

I have a Fulton armory upper receiver and bolt carrier group. It looks to be square but since my work would go apeshit if I brought it in and laid it on the cmm table I will never know. Both of the bolt broke the lug off just under the extractor. This area also contacts just by the bolt release. They both had roughly 1000 to 2000 rounds before the broke. I also found that one of my mags does cause interference with the bolt as well. It is now in file 13. I have thought about removing the bolt catch to potentially keep the bolt from being under stress but I figure is would not be much compared to the locking into the chamber.

It would be nice to see cmmg mutant with a 6.5 barrel. I like that they went with the bulked up bolt and carrier to give more meat to hold the case head. And the 6.5 Grendel should feed well from and ak mag which would give to the use of pmags too.

I'd take it to Aa 'smith and have it squared. Also look at bolts made with 9310 if you don't have one now. That bolt catch isn't breaking anything.
Also there will be NO TYPE I Grendels. This will be a pure SAAMI set up. No griping from the cognesenti on this one.
Greg
BTW. They shoot quite nicely from the report I got recently.
