So I currently have a .264 LBC 20" 1x9 twist standard weight with target crown. I am looking to change to a 20"or 22" 1x8 twist with threads. I have a type 2 bolt setup now. Would there be a benefit changing to a type 1. I want to stay LBC due to the reported deeper throat.
Also has anyone looked into the Berger 130gr tactical bullets for this chamber?

If anything a TYPE II would be a degradation on the chambering as you have an extra 0.010 hanging out of the chamber. Additionally you have that much more flexing bolt lug area around the case head. Greg Edited to mean TYPE II

How would having more case out of the chamber be better than having more in the chamber? The only DS I have seen is that the reason for the deeper bolt face was to aid in extraction.

I missed making that a TYPE II. ALEXANDER claims better extraction but then he also claims it is more reliable for strength but I doubt that. Greg

I doubt the strength as well as too I have broke one bolt that was a type 2. Do I lose anything going to a type 1 other than the current bolt I have. I believe that type 1 bolt are more readily available. I have also considered goint to the 243 LBC to take advantage of the 105 gr bergers

My muti-tasking sucks today. You have a current TYPE II. I feel a TYPE I (0.125 depth) would be a step up in the strength department. BHW settled on that as the default bolt about a year ago after a lot of cussing and discussing on the topic. They will still do TYPE II's (0.136) on request. With the new 9310 stells out ther and a huge step up in 135 bolt production it is a toss up. If one loads sanely bolt life should be good in either but I still like that extra 0.010 in the chamber. I have not shot the 130's in the 264 LBC. I prefer the 123 Nosler CC's. There is a huge debate if the G. might shoot better and arguments can be made both ways. (BTW the GRENDEL is NOT available in a TYPE I) In the 243 LBC doing the numbers we have found the 95 grain SMK or 95 Berger are better for long range over 500 based on TOF and the drop in BC is not that detrimental in this one. The SMK is my pill of choice in all my 243 LBC's at this time. Plus the cost is so much better for us old guys budget. 500 can be shot by a myriad of bullets including the 87 Hornady quite well. Greg

So many choices. Do want to build a new pup in 5.56(20" or 18") or 243 LBC(24") or stick a new tube on My 264 LBC (24")? Type 1 or 2? But hey at least i know what color finish - black. I should have never decided to build another bang stick

I actually like the 1:9. It handles everything I will shoot. Greg

Ahh nevermind. I picked up a geissele trigger instead. Figure it would probably help more with my current setup on my 264.
