So when you fire it it leaves the case completely in the chamber. The bolt comes back and will lock on an empty magazine leaving the fired case in the chamber? Greg if i seat the bullet touching the lands and fire it the gun will exxtract and eject the case. it will not extract a new piece of brass that has not been fired. Bruce

Well the HS is right. Who made the bolt or where did you source it from?

barrel and bolt came from BHW. Bruce Since the chamber is right I just have to think it is something in the extractor specs. It is basically just a 7.62X39 bolt on the front end. I've never had any issues. My suggestion is to try and get a replacement extractor. I don't suppose you have access to another bolt? Greg

Greg i'll see what i can come up with as far as the extractor. looking at it i can't see anything amiss but who knows. only other bolts i have are 223's and that's no help. Bruce

For a dry fire experiment stick a 223 extractor in there and see what happens.

Greg still didn't work. i'm going to call BHW later and see what they think about the bolt, seems like that;s all it could be. i haven't given up yet though! Greg, i would like to thank you and Rich for taking the time to help me here when i know you guys would rather be shooting. i know i would. Bruce

Bruce, I am running a Maxim Type 1 bolt and running 50 rounds it has worked flawlessly. I didn't pull the rubber spacer so it tears the rim some. It was recommended on another forum and I have some pictures of it on this forum. Still $75 each. www.maximfirearms.com/

Greg Greg, it was in the extractor as you suggested! during this time i was finally able to gather up some spare 7.62x39 extractors (3) and today i finally made time to check them against the one i got from BHW. i checkd the dimension from the front of the retaining pin to the channel lip(catches on brass) in the extractor. the BHW extractor is about .005 shorter than 2 others and .006 shorter than the remaining one. this never kept me from shooting after the brass was fire formed so i was not in any rush to correct it. all-in-all, the problem i solved! i will get some pics up later to show where i measured. thanks Greg and Rich for the suggestions early!
