Ok fixing to order a 16 in std carbine length barrel in 1x8 as the one i have now is 1x9.. My question is how to head space this barrel i understand how to do it on my bolt gun just never did it on an ar.. any and all help is appreciated I have dealt with ARs quite a bit but never changed Barrels before.. Was also wondering if anyone has a Dragons Head Muzzle Break on thier AR and how well they liked them?

The barrel should be headspaced from blackhole ready to drop in and shoot crap but you can check it with a go/nogo gauge if you want. If I was ordering a new 16" I would consider a mid length gas port, It would be just replacing the gas tube but would run alittle better and less fouling in the action. I do have a dragon head brake on my 264lbc, seems to work pretty good and looks nice too. Lerms

Lerms Not quite as simple moving away from the Carbine as it would need a new set of hand guards if you go mid unless you want to expose the tube for 2" . The best way at that point would be a FF tube up to the GB. The barrel will be properly headspaced from BHW. The DH brake works quite well from all my testing on it. Greg

oh yeah handguard, Forgot about that one mostly cause all my handguards are rifle or extended rifle length free float. Still its a very simple swap.

Thanks all will be doing this shortly as I just started a new job and getting some things hashed out as usual looking forward to it as my 2 Dragons head Breaks are on the way.. 1 for my AR and 1 for my .308 Appreciate the help again..

After all the research and pondering will be doing this shortly and I received my Dragons head muzzle breaks just need to make it to the range now and try the one on my AR out.... Ok one more if I get the Std Carbine barrel what size gas block would I need for it?? and what kinds of mounts for the hand guards as usual just making sure before I layout any cash lol

ok I have another question here was snooping around and would like to know the difference between the Standard Carbine barrel and a M4 barrel is it just the looks or are there any other differences I am not seeing??? and would the same gas block for the standard work?

Standard Carbine is a regular standard barrel with a carbine gas. The M4 has the grenade launcher cut out and the muzzle is slightly different. Same gas block size. Greg
