Okay so my first choice was a bust. YHM ruid my barrel and I am not waiting 6-8 months for a replacement. So back to the drawing board. I was going with an 18" but now a 20" is more in line with my goals (small groups out to 600-700 yards. And don't ask why .223) So now I am down to twist, profile, and muzzle. Twist should I stick with the 1-8 or step up to the 1-7? I plan on 68-77 grain boat tails. Profile should I use bull, semi-bull, or standard. Weight is not a issue. I got an atlas bipod to keep it supported and this is not an offhand rifle. Mostly prone. Muzzle. I know they don't do much so I am thinking target crown and be done. The only reason is a device also helps to protect the crown. Please get me some input soon as I plan to take advantage of the current deal going on. Chamber wise is the BHW chamber good enough compared to a match chamber. This whole rig is to help me learn balistics and shooting techniques as I save for a long range rig

Bull 20" rifle gas Target crown 1:8 Piece of cake at 600 yards. The 77 Noslers are great. Match chamber? Based on what is being shot you can't do any better than these.

Yeah that is kinda what I was thinking. But why 1-8 over the 1-7? I have other rifles for the lower grain bullets and I want a barrel for the heavier grain pills. Maybe even throw in some vld bullets into the mix.

I use mine to shoot light ones on prairie dogs also so the 1:8 was my straddle the fence twist for my purpose. I shoot a 24" gun because I have 1000 yards available and a 20" just wouldn't do. Greg

Should I go with the 22" to gain a little more? My range has a maximum of 1250 so I have more room than I would ever need. This gun is to help me with technique before I move up to say a 6.5-284 beast of a bolt gun. Basically learn wind and figuring shooting solutions .223 has a higher round count than what I want next would

All my LR AR's are 24" because I couldn't get a 26". Greg My opinion...not asked for..run the numbers on a 95 SMK 6MM at 2950 against your big boomer at 1000.

I am also thinking on a .243 but that is down the road. 243 LBC will do unreal things for such s little cartridge and it won't eat barrels like a 243 Winchester or that 6.5. Greg
