The parts are ordered and I will document progress here. I am starting with a Savage model 11 action. I have ordered a 24" BHW barrel in .308 with 1:11 twist with varmint contour, 5/8x11 threads at the muzzle. The barrel and a barrel nut both black shot peened. A PTG recoil lug will replace the factory one and when together will sit in a Boyds laminate pro varmint stock with coyote coloration.with a SWFA HD 3-9x 42 scope in mil/mil configuration will be the optic. Should be a fun build. I will post pics as they come.

After vet2260 was having problems getting his barrel to tread into the action I went back to mine for a second look. With the barrel removed here is a look at the action Here is a look at the threads nothing has been done yet. only stuck a dry rag in there to wipe loose grease and crud There is some junk in there and I will give a proper cleaning later.

i had been using permatex aluminum anti-seize then switched to the copper based(i don't know why) and recently found that the copper is "not so good" with stainless. the recommended anti-seize would be the aluminum like i had been using or the nickel based(which is known to be carcinogenic). i'm thinking i might try some of the grease i will be using on my AR's.

The pt&g recoil lug came today and looking at it I have a question. The card that came with it indicated it was for a remington???Do they both use the same lug? And this lug does not have the notch in it but has a hole as if a pin would go there but no pin was included. Never ordered on of these before so all may be good just not sure. Also the thickness is 0.250 (The gun is a savage model 11)

you can use it with your Savage no problem but i don't know why they don't enclose the pin with it. they offer the pin separately on their site, it takes the place of the notch in the factory recoil lug. you can probably use a roll pin.

I got all my problems worked out and got it installed and went to the range this weekend and ran 200 rounds thru it following the break in procedures listed and really enjoyed it.. It seemed to like the heavier grained bullets.. Started with 147 and then went to 150 it really liked these and then 168 and it loved those really good was poking the center at 200 would have posted pics but the targets were all tore up lol I really love the new Barrel And use the Aluminum anti sieze when your done make sure you clean it out really good also if you got your barrel threaded get a Dragons Head Muzzle Break my buddy noticed that it didnt abuse me as bad as the last time I shot it.. Enjoy!!!

I went with a DNZ Game reaper.a one piece mount with 20 moa machined in. Instead on the 3x9 I put a SWFA 5-20X52 HD scope and got it sighted in today. Had some wind today but was good to get in the zone. Will post some targets tomorrow. Looking good though.

Here are some additional shots of the gun with scope mounted and sighted in. I found a thread protector on line made by CMMG. a different look but I like it. I will post some targets soon. Busy season here having a hard time getting to the range and the wind and rain this spring sucks but they will come. I am happy the way this one turned out. the weight with scope and mag is 12 lbs and I will give a thumb up on the SWFA 5-20x HD Really a nice scope
