I'm looking to build a 264LBC upper to use as a farm gun on our 144 acres of hilly Tennessee land. I'm limited to 200yard shots on deer and coyotes on our property and many shots have been at less than 100 yards. I do a lot of work on my tractor and would like to keep my AR build as short as possible for ease of walking the woods & hillsides and getting the rifle out of the scabbard that I've mounted to the back of the tractor roll bar.
I am considering this barrel:
RTS 16" 264LBC 1x9 standard mid 5/8 black
What bullet weight range would the 1 in 9 twist suit best? What coyote bullet choice would be good? What deer bullet choice would be good? I use a lot of IMR 8208xbr,Ramshot Tac and IMR4166. Would these powders work well for 264lbc loads in the preferred bullet weight range? Is the mid weight barrel overkill (and needlessly heavy) for my 200 yards and under requirements? I'm often on foot with the rifle and would like things as light as possible.
advice would be greatly appreciated. this is my first entry into 6.5mm based cartridges
thanks,
Paul

I have an 18" 1-9 264 barrel, IMO you'd be fine with the 16". Keep in mind it will be loud. The "mid" in the description means mid-length gas.
Mine didn't care for 123 gr amax but shoots 100 gr amax and Nosler bt's well. Either one should be fine for deer with the edge going to the Noslers. 95 vmax shoot ok also. For powders 8208 will give you good speed, and probably accuracy with that weight range. I just tried H335 the other day and results are impressive with 100 gr amax. 2750 fps from the 18" and 3/4 moa at 200 yds

I'd look at the 100 grain Sierra Varminter for the coyotes. 8208 is probably the pick of the litter. Look at the standard or even light weight barrel for your needs. Mid-gas on the short one will do fine. Greg

I'm a bit to the south of you in AL , but not by much. I have a 264LBC, 18", 1:8, BHW slim profile, Rogers stock, MI handguard, Weaver 6x fixed... you get the idea. Empty it's 7lbs exactly. That should give you some idea of what's possible.

I am considering this barrel: RTS 16" 264LBC 1x9 standard mid 5/8 black That's mid length gas system, standard profile. Not mid weight (although standard is the mid range of profiles). If you want the barrel quickly, that standard profile is sitting on the shelf waiting for you to buy it. It isn't going to hurt you any as far as weight goes. If you really feel like you want something lighter, BHW will make you one, too. You will just have to wait a couple extra weeks for it to be made. There is nothing wrong with the 6.5, but personally, I would lean towards something in a .30 cal for your environment. That would be my choice, though. The beauty of a free country is that you have the liberty as well as the frustrations of making this choice for yourself.
