That turned out to be a good looking rifle. Have you decided what "glass" and mount your going to use? Thanks for posting, Glenn Thanks, Glenn. The BTE tube worked out well...just a shade over 30 lbs of torque to index the gas tube and align DTC on the barrel. I'm glad i went with the longer tube as well. The pins in the trigger group may need to be replaced...we'll see. I'll have to pull the tube to tune the gas but no big deal. I was thinking a PEPR mount and a Vortex 4-12x40. I have zero experience with the PEPR, though. Always used rings. Thoughts welcome. Regards, CP

I have over half a dozen I do that with. Greg

Going to try one of the Aero Precisions ultralight scope mounts next. That Vortex scope should serve you well. Glenn

Glenn Aero is good stuff from my limited experience. I picked up an Aero M5 matched set from Schuyler'so last fall for $235...AR10 is next build.

I've been reading a bunch of other posts here and have been wondering about my first loads. Right or wrong, I picked up some SGK 85gr to try for my first rounds...thinking that would be my starting place. I see several here who have gone out past 2.260 COL with this load...using ACS mags...a definite no-go on my MagPul mags. Believe it or not, I have a few 5 round ACS mags in my box. All that to ask...should I start at mag length 2.260? Remember, I still need to break in the barrel before I start dialing it in. It doesn't sound like I should have an issue with mag length, but I know my bolt guns have a preference on jump to the lands. This AR "wildcat-ing" is new to me so forgive the 'duh!' question please... This is my dummy I used to get my new seating die started. It isn't as long as the pic looks, bad camera angle. On the extreme, 2.3205 is at least 10/1000th long...I guessing...in the ACS mag and I didn't expect to fit at this point. Screw it down to 2.260 and go break-in the barrel with a few different charges?

I run my cartridges with SGK 85 gr. to a length of 2.295". The ASC 5.56 magazines I have give a total internal length of 2.300" Running the cartridges .005" shorter than the magazine allows gives me some wiggle room. That's just my personal preference. Having that longer length shortens the jump the bullet has to make. And will reduced the pressure compared to a 2.260" with the same powder charge.
If you decide to go with the 2.260" cartridge length. Make sure the load data your getting it from was shot at that length. Don't forget some picture with a range report.

Glenn Glenn, what powder are you running on those at 2.295?

Originally CFE223 and Reloader 15. Just what I considered basic loads. Got an American 30 barrel and now the 6.8 SPC so my 6x45mm load testing got bumped. Have some AR-Comp I want to try also with the 85 gr SGK's.

I would load longer than 2.260. My notes for similar bullets show you will have plenty of room at 2.300 and quite a bit more. I would get the Sinclair toll for distance to lands. It is far superior to the Hornady that I would see as a bare minimum.
