Hello, new to this forum but I am looking for advice since searching has yielded no results. I have a Remington 700 chambered in 300 Win Mag that is set up for long range shooting / hunting. It is sporting a factory tube right now but I would like to upgrade and customize it to make it that much sweeter. It currently sits in a MDT chassis with Vortex glass. It shoots well having killed an antelope last week at 995 yards but I cannot leave well enough alone. I see a lot of short action bolt guns and AR platforms fitted with BHW barrels but not many in the magnum variety. I am getting close to dropping the hammer on a 26" fluted 1:10 twist .308 cal barrel from BHW to drop into my 300 Win Mag. While I am waiting for the barrel I plan to send the action off to be trued and have a recoil lug pinned. This is a new type of rifling for me and a company I am unfamiliar with. My question is, can I expect good results on this larger type long action caliber with a BHW barrel? If I am going to spend the money I want to go with a barrel that is going to work best with my caliber. Anyone have experience with larger calibers using a BHW barrel?

i have a bhw 7 mm rem mag i put together. i have only taken it out to 800 so far but it shoots good. stock action not trued or anything. bore is smooth and cleans easily. i have two barrels on 700 actions and one an ar10 and will soon have another. they do make a good product at a good price.

Yes they shoot well by report. Did you see the African safari guns in the big bores? I have a 300 Win for my Savage but have not barreled it up yet. If your 300 shoots like the 308 chassis I wrote up here just using factory fodder you will be smiling s great deal.

Outstanding. That's very helpful guys. Kept telling myself to play it safe and stick with one of the brands that is a big name in the long range game. I hate the idea of giving my gun to a smith when I enjoy doing it myself so much. That's why the barrel nut appeals to me so much. I just finished building a savage off a free donor action I aquired and it is so cool to achieve that accuracy out of something I built. The 3 groove polygonal is new to me and was where the apprehensive hangup is for me. Thanks again for any and all first and second hand experience.

You'll really hate that three poly barrels if you seek lower speeds and frequent cleaning. These barrels are fast and fouling is extremely reduced.
