Hello, All
I am new to the wildcat world, and want to start with the .243 LBC. I know i can use 6mm PPC data to start, but i was wondering, since the lbc holds a little more powder, can i increase the starting load from the PPC by a grain or two or could i start with max ppc data? What powders seem to work the best from your experience and with what weight class of bullets? I will be loading all classes in various weights eventually. Not afraid of loading long either. Im in the planning stages of making my own bobsled from a dense plastic block ive acquired from work.
I plan on ordering either an 18" or 20" semi bull barrel. Is there a big velocity gap between 18" & 20"? But what im really not sure of, is what the best gas length would be; mid or rifle? As well as should i get an adjustable gas block if i go with one or the other? Id prefer to use a standard steel gas block for my wallet's sake, but i have an adjustable block picked out, should i have to go that route.
Looking forward to getting my barrel from Columbia/Blackhole and starting this new journey in handloading and the shooting sports.

It will be somewhere between the two. Sometimes closer to the PPC than the BR and sometimes up into some nice BR velocities. We start at MAX PPC for a belt and suspenders approach in safety plus you often find a lower speed node that is nice for many uses like punching paper etc. We have found 8208, RL15 and H4895 will do well on the case. Looking at the PPC and BR loads will give you a plethora of choices but 8208 has become our default powder in most cases. Chronographs are your friend. 18" vs. 20" is not a huge difference. Maybe 50-60 FPS. Look for an adjustable from BTE for a gas block. The semi-bull cuts down your cheap alternatives but his are very reasonable. Once you get the barrel I can get more specific numbers for you on the process. Buy LAPUA brass. Greg

Thanks for the reply GLshooter, i will definitely take a long hard look at 8208 and 4895. I load a few other cartridges that would use either of those powders. As far as gas length goes, which would be ideal for, say an 18" barrel? My dad has a 20" rifle length barrel in 6.5 grendel from Eisenach, which is the most consistently accurate gas gun ive fired to date, but it is slightly under-gassed and i dont want to deal with that on my own build.
Any experience with Superlative arms or syrac? I understand syrac is the mother company to superlative.), and the designs are simliar if not identical. I was looking at the superlative as its more affordable at $90. As long as it fits under an ALG EMR tube, ill get whatever i need to. Ill be $1500 deep in this build by the time its all said and done, so whats another $80 or so?
Thanks again

Sorry I skipped that. 18" would be a mid length. 20" I always go rifle gas.
AGB's I have used are JP, BTE. Double Star and Joe Bobs. I've never used a Syrac or dealt with Superlative. My preference is BTE or the new Joe Bob design that adjusts from the front. I'm not a big on to spend a lot of money on them. I have no problem looking at a wrench and telling half a turn vs. six clicks.

Awesome, mid length was what i was thinking. Ill take a look at joe bobs and bte as well. I will undoubtedly have more questions once i have the rifle completed, but for now, theyve been answered, and i thank you GLshooter!
Happy shooting, John
