I rebarreled my lr308 with a 1-11, 16" light profile bhw barrel. Shot 45 rounds with the break in procedure posted here. I have been trying to work up a 178 bthp load. Using fc brass, wlr, varget. Found some ocw at 43.2-44.1 grains of varget. Worked with 43.8 and 43.5. 43.8 liked 2.830 roughly, and 43.5 seems to like 2.805. Col measurements are tough and vary. I am using a hornady comperator to measure cbto, and it is more reliable. Been trying the 43.5 at roughly 2.805. Shot one 3 shot group at .362 centers. Went to shoot this am, and with the same load, best was 1.250, with worst at 2.500". I have 110 rounds through the barrel. Do i need to shoot more( settle the barrel), chase down different load, alter current load, expect less from gun, or any other ideas. 168 gmm shot about 1.250" to 1.500". Thanks for any help.

Personally I prefer one bullet and three different powders at three charge weights to start things going. I select the powders based on potential speeds. I've never been enamored to the single powder pursuit. I also am not above trying some factory ammunition to get my baseline for accuracy expectations to improve from.

I will work that direction. Anyone have ideas to start with either 178 bthp or eldx? Also what is the average to be expected. Best i can consistently do is .500 to .750. If i can get a load to follow, that would be sweet.

Accuracy on an auto is always an unknown thanks to all that reciprocating mass. I would expect about what you can shoot. Many guys don't realize how difficult it is to really shoot bug holes with these. I wrote up the BAT action 308 here using factory fodder that was outstanding. I'm slowly getting s big frame auto that I'll get going as soon as the holidays are over. Greg

Thanks for the info. Shot again today, no luck with same load. Going to start workup with 4064, win 748, and maybe 8208. Ive had good luck with small frame ar's, so i assume i just need to keep hunting for the good bullet/ powder combo. Ideally ill run heavies to maintain energy as far as i can. But if i come across a light bullet that shoots well, im not against it. Ill maybe try to find some other projectiles and keep hunting. Thanks for the help.

No consistency with the 178 bthp. Shot a couple 175 smk's they are better. So far looks like 175 smk's w varget is between 1.250 and 1.750 consistently. Ran a couple with xbr 8208, maybe going to find something there. Preliminary groups were pretty good. 1.100 to 1.350" going to run ocw for this load, and maybe get some 155 palmas or lapuas. Any experience with 16" 1-11" is appreciated.

Still waiting for 155's to show up. Shot an ocw string with xbr and 175 sierras. 41.8 was not a ocw charge, but did get close to moa. Ill keep checking and be back.
