Imy getting a barrel from Ritch to get some more HP over my 6x45. Now when I had my old 6x68 the SSA was the only way to go. I see I can get 100 pieces for like $56 and Hornady is a little higher. Sure wish I could get lapua. So is the SSA what I should get?

I cannot say I have used it at all in the new production. I might give it a whirl. I suspect it would still be better than the Hornady if it has remained harder. Greg

Thank you Greg, I'm really not a fan of Hornady at all. I keep reading all the horror story's of different neck thickness of different brands and such.

Thank you Greg, I'm really not a fan of Hornady at all. I keep reading all the horror story's of different neck thickness of different brands and such. It will vary across brands and lots. Ritch uses a 267 bushing. I had a think bunch of stuff and have been using a 269 but will probably start going to the 268 in the future. A lot of mine is shot single loaded in a bolt gun so that is kind of cheating..LOL I use FC and SSA but have a small amount of Remington tucked away.. Greg

Did the old SSA have a slightly greater powder capacity than Hornaday?

Did the old SSA have a slightly greater powder capacity than Hornaday? I have not heard what they were. I suspect less. The big thing is that the consistency from lot to lot was there plus the brass was harder and would retain primers much longer. I have quite a bit with 11+ loadings on it and it is still going strong and has NOT been annealed. They were doing the higher pressure Tactical loads early on that were doing nicely for the guys that buy factory ammunition of which I am not one. Greg

So I found SSA brass and ordered it and came head stamped SSA and not Nosler so hopefully it's the old stuff.

Nosler bought SSA and made a batch with Nosler head stamps but it has gone back to the SSA stamping. I have heard that they are doing better on QC. I also have heard that it is softer then the old stuff. Let us know how the pockets hold up. Greg

Thanks for the info Greg. I have only found the SSA in one place in stock. I just got done chamfer and deburing to get ready to resize. I will say every single piece had perfect pockets and flash holes. Out of 100 there wasn't a single dinged or smashed neck like the Hornady I got (out of 50 I had to trim 7 necks back to get gouges out). This brass is much harder than the junk Hornady. How well it holds up only time will tell. I think I'll order a couple hundred more pieces

I didn't care for the Hornady brass definitely on the hard side. The necks were thicker and expensive!! $38/50 at Bruno's So I got some of new ssa brass 100 pieces. It's stamped ssa not Nosler. it is softer but it seems to hold up well! got six reloads primer pockets are still tight!! No problems as of yet

That sounds good. Looks like SSA/NOSLER is getting back to the old SSA quality.

Desert dog did you weight any of them to see how consistent they were with the new nosler/ssa?
