Ok I have a savage axis that I'm going to put on a new barrel I know I need a barrel nut wrench which one is the one to get? What else do I need a barrel vise or action wrench and what one or can I make a vise?

NEVER use an action wrench on a SAVAGE. Wheeler wrench works well on the nut. I like the DAVIDSON barrel vise but for a one time deal a split and grooved oak block will work.
My method is in a thread here.

My advice is to get a barrel vise or a bench vise. Bench vise is so handy you should have one anyway and it doesn't have to be big or costly. What I use is a bench vise with aluminum jaws: www.summitracing.com/parts/fra-900061?seid=srese1&cm_mmc=pla-google-_-shopping-_-srese1-_-fragola-performance-systems&gclid=CKTMseS9xNECFYpffgodTdoC4Q like those. The aluminum vise jaws protect the barrel from damage, clamp the barrel in them and then pull off the barrel nut with a barrel nut wrench. When I put the new barrel on I wrap it with a few layers of masking tape to protect the finish near the barrel tenon and where the vise jaws will grab hold. I also have found that a rubber mallet comes in very handy. So, bench vise + aluminum vise jaws or barrel vise, Savage barrel nut tool, rubber mallet. This is such a common thing to do that someone near you already has everything you need but the barrel and all they need to let you use their tools is usually something like a 6-pack of really good or really bad beer, depending on taste. Your favorite local/state gun forum or any of the biggies like longrangehunting, snipershide or ar15.com should enable you to find a generous local willing to help.
