New to this forum--though I've been buying BHW barrels for quite some time. A few years ago I bought a Sharp's 25 45 upper for a lower build (BHW made their barrels at the time--don't know if they still do) based on an 18" SS barrel. Sharp's ammo was OK--but at the time all they had was stuff based on 87 gr hot cores (their highly touted 3000 fps claim to fame) so I started loading my own. One fateful day--I grabbed a jug of accurate #7 instead of Reloder #7 for a cartridge group I was working up. When I pulled the trigger on the the first round--the gun kaboomed when over 130,000 psi were released. I was very lucky I wasn't injured as the magazine blew up and the case vaporized into the bolt a receiver, the blast shearing the extractor off and seizing the bolt and carrier to the upper. This happened last year, and the remains sat against my wall for a while, this spring I finally took everything apart (I had to cut the upper in half in order to get the BCG free) I did get the barrel loose, and cleaned it and set it aside, figuring that I would mount it as a trophy in my "hall of shame." : ) This spring I had some spare parts lying around--and I began to wonder--is this re-useable? So I rebuild the rifle with spare parts and got the barrel to square up nicely with the receiver and bolt. Next, I wondered if any of the reloads I had used would work well, so here are 5 shots of 90 gr gamekings driven by 27.4 grs of X-Terminator: Thought you might get a kick out of seeing what a BHW used and kaboomed barrel can do. ; )
