I understand that lead cast bullets are not to be used in polygonal rifling. I dont have plans for that especially since I have a BHW 6.8 SPC barrel on my AR build. I am beginning to start reloading for this rifle for hunting deer.
My question is can Nosler E-tips and Barnes be shot through BHW barrels? On a side note can moly coated bullets be used as well?

They blew up a lot of their guns because they weren't cleaning the bores. Nothing wrong at all with shooting lead in the rifle barrels. There may be ability of sealing issues as the bullets may not bump up quite enough to engrave properly. An illustration of this was the old Browning HP's shot lead terribly because the lands were so shallow lead could not get a good "grip" to be spun properly. Several guys have shot lead over the the years so that is not an issue in my mind at all. Shoot it and clean it just like normal. Remember if they aren't cast hard you will have a gray sewer pipe on your hands VERY quickly. No issues at all with E-tips and Barnes bullets. One fellow is shooting a pair or 20 Practicals with no-lead pills and killing thousands of ground squirrels each year. Unless I were forced to though I would not shoot the monolithics or no-leads. Across the board reported accuracy no matter what the barrel has been less than the best with many of them and they do take some tweaking to get running well. Moly/coated bullets are perfectly fine in these barrels. I shoot DANZAC coated bullets in mine and have no issues at all. I'm glad you came here wit those questions. There is too much smoke and mirrors existing in the shooting world. Blind incorrect statements are continually repeated until people believe they are 'GOSPEL" when in reality they are quite simply false. Foisted by the uninformed and those inexperienced with the actual gear involved these falsehoods confuse many new, and experienced, shooters. Greg

Thanks for the quick response. I have a couple of test loads of the E-tips I wanted to try out. Hopefully I can get them dialed in for a deer hunt. Also have a batch of the Nosler 90 gr. Bonded too. I will have to post some pictures of my build with the BHW barrel to share with you all.
