I have a barrel cert I need to use and originally thought I wanted a 6.5 Creed but I hate the big frame gasser (even though I won the cert with one) and keep looking at the .264 LBC. It will be used solely for PRS and 3-Gun Nation LR matches so I'm torn between 20", 22", and MAYBE ath 24" barrel. There is such a thing as too long when it comes to moving a gun around in that type of match. I keep reading that there is a point of diminishing returns on barrels over 20" with the 6.5 Grendel. I'm inclined to go 20" or 22" with rifle length gas. For those of you that shoot the Grendel to 1000yds do you have any input or wish you had done something differently than you did? The 264 is iffy at 1000. Not much wiggle room. You need all the tube you can get. 22 or 24. Hornady Black is good OTC ammunition. I would go with a 243 LBC over the 264 if I were a handloader. Better ballistics going away. Greg

I shoot 16" 20" .308 gas guns for a living and won this cert shooting to 1000yds with a 20" .308 also. I'm certain a Grendel will do 800yds and in, where most gas gun matches are found, as well as a .308 will. My question is, does a barrel over 20" gain appreciable MV given the capacity of the Grendel? Or is it diminishing returns and a 20" barrel is optimal? I'm not shooting a cartridge I can't buy ammo for in a pinch because I've traveled before. and had a gun show up without ammo. That means 6.5 not 6mm for this LBC. I see 30-40 FPS/inch on the 20-24 tubes. I agree at 800 and in it will do well but when you stack it against the heavy 308 at 1000 I know what I want in the winds here. OTC fodder is pretty important in your situation and a standard style chanbering is almost mandatory. My data is based on my handloads in 264. How factory ammunition will perform may well be different. I've never fired a round of factory Grendel though I do have one on my shelf. Greg

I never said I was a pro 3-Gun or PRS competitor. I said I shoot rifles for a living (as a gov't employee) and I won the cert with a 20" barreled .308 gas gun. I just finished in 2nd Place (TAC) yesterday at the PRS Club Series Finale. I'vwe shot well all year but don't have the time to chase points like the pro shooters. Nothing like pulling a trigger for pay during the week and playing on the weekrnds. The Feds payed me to shoot precision rifles and teach how to use them all over the US. My weekend warrior stuff was more handgun oriented shooting all over m Eighteen US Nationsls and six wins along the way. Shot the US Three Gun Nationals where I did pretty well. Lots of area sniper matches over the years. (VBG) Congratulations on your range success. Greg

I pretty much stick to NC, SC, and VA because I can't really travel all that much. Luckily there is a deep talent pool in this region and several good match venues. Virtually nothing in Phoenix. Too dang hot half the year. Greg
