So... I'm seeing claims of 24" barrels delivering 2900fps with 105grn bullets - pretty dang impressive, considering I get the 105 Berger to 3150 with a 6 Creed...
Guess curiosity is killing this cat, 'cuz now I want one. I had almost convinced myself to do a 6-6.8 or WOA, but after spending all summer and fall with a Grendel, and being a dedicated lover of all things Dasher, I'm wanting to put together an AR in 6mm AR or 243LBC...
So why pick either? I don't mind fire forming, but would prefer not to. Finding dies for either isn't great, and I don't love necking with a bushing die, but I'm open.
I'm also thinking if a 24" is 2900fps, I'd expect something on the order of 2700-2750 from a 20". Still very respectable for a long range practice rifle. I'd expect barrel life to be 3000-ish? What don't I know here?
Half and half, mentally, between a Rem 700 ADL donor and an AR. Most likely an AR, rebarreling one of my 6.8's.

My 95's run at 2900 out of a 24" I don't even bother with 105's and they aren't going to get loaded that hot in mine any time soon. I've got some data but none is up in that area. I do like brass life to be more than one and done. We don't fire form on 243 LBC as it is a straight neck down. CH4D offers the 243 LBC dies but I have been waiting a year on mine that I ordered on a whim. No joy there. Bushings take one extra step for brass forming. Hardly a barrier IMHO. Barrel life of 3,000 is possible depending on your definition of barrel life. 0.5MOA is far different than MOA of coyote/deer. Greg

Odd thought this evening - I’m sure I can find prints to compare myself, but can a 6mm Fat Rat or Turbo chamber be reamed into a barrel originally built for 243LBC? Saw a Fat Rat bolt gun at a precision rifle match last month and fell in love. 24” Fat Rat AR with an 18” Midwest handguard may be in my near future! If a BHW 243 LBC barrel can be rechambered easily enough, all the better!

If a BHW 243 LBC barrel can be rechambered easily enough, all the better! I wouldn't have a clue on that rechamber. Subtle variations in the body/neck size might be an issue. Many time cases are so close they chamber won't clean up enough to do a good job. One could find the reamers and have your local smith give it a whirl as BHW/CRA will not rechamber a barrel. You might talk to Whitley about it I suspect that it would be easier with less headaches to just buy one from him. Greg ADDENDUM: I've been thinking this over and based on the different neck length I believe the chamber is not going to clean up enough to be re-bored.
