I have decided to change out my 308AR to 7mm-08 and have ordered a rifle length bull barrel from Tactical Ammunition. I will use this barrel to replace the DPMS 308 barrel in my upper. Most all of the parts from the DPMS upper should work with the new barrel. I have a local gunshop who will help me make the changeout. I already have 7mm-08 brass, dies and bullets on hand, so some handloads will be easy to make. I will keep posting updates to the rebuild.
This 7mm-08 sub-board needs entries.

Sounds like a winner. Just out of curiosity, what parts off of the old upper wouldn't work?

I am one of them huge advocates for the 7mm-08. Although I do get mix reviews with heavy bullets (162+), I still believe it to be ballistically superior to 308... even at the expend of some energy lost. It is good to see fellow shooters from CA.

blopez50, I do not have my new barrel yet, and I have not taken my DPMS upper apart yet, so I do not know if the gas block will be the correct size for the new barrel. The rest of the parts should be fine.

Hello, Sounds like fun, keep us informed of how it all works out. I have had 2 7-08's but not on an ar platform, I for one will like to hear what you think of it when you get the kinks shook out of it. Best Luck

Peter in CA Hello Pete, Just measure the diameter next to the gasblock to see what the diameter is (.750", or .936", etc.) and then order the correct size if different from the one you have on your .308 barrel...

Well Gents, More than six weeks and no barrel yet. I am starting to wonder if it will ever show up.

The barrel has shipped. Other than being threaded at the muzzle, which I did not order, it should be the one I want. I might even have it changed out for my 308 barrel by the end of summer.

Barrel installed today in place of the DPMS barrel in my upper. It was a much tighter fit into the upper than the DPMS barrel, but it eventually went in.The Polygonal rifling sure looks different from the rifling in the DPMS bore.
Now its time to shoot.

I'll be interested to see how it shoots, and velocities, etc.
What length and profile did you get? This may be my next build after the 243 is done. Well, that is if the UN allows it.

204ar, I got the 24 inch bull barrel. It was supposed to be non-threaded, but it came with threads. So it now has a thread protector on it.
I have no way to know the velocities of my reloads, as I do not own a chronograph. I also tend to load on the lighter end of the chart. My 260 Remington reloads are so light they do not cycle the action. I will have to try and make my 7-08 reloads a bit stiffer.
