Something else to ask.... I get these questions often, so I posted them here for all of us to see in one spot: 1. In reloading for 243BC, what brass is good to use? Horned? What kind of life can we get out of Horned once fired brass? Lap? What is expected in life expectancy here, and is it worth just using Lap instead of Horned? 2. Straight forward list of components needed for reloading: Dies, Case Length Gage? 3. Powder that is ideal? MR 8208? Any others? 4. Range of projectiles that we should stick to with the current twist offered by BOW? 5. Ideal barrel lengths (at this time). #1 Recommended brass is Lapua or Alexander Arms. Hornady 's necks are to thick and require turning. AA brass is also the least expensive. #2 We are using Hornady 6PPC dies off the shelf. You could also use a Redding full length S die in 6.5 Grendel. To seat with we are using a Hornady 6mm seating die. ( All Hornady 6mm dies are the same ) As for a case length Gage there are none This is a wildcat cartridge. You could make one, but none are commerically available. #3 8208 4895 R15 Have all worked. #4 55grain Nosler to 95 grain VLD with the currant twist rates available. #5 As far as barrel length, below 20" is not advisable. Velocity loss is more than acceptable. 24" barrels and light bullets will run at 22-250 velocity. I know this thread is old but I just got my 243 lbc up and running 95gr vld at 2930fps. 22inch barrel 1:8 twist. Shoots 1.5" groups. I have heard that trying 105's might be the ticket for Long Range. only dropping maybe 150 fps. Any loads for this combo on a 105 bullet? thanks

Welcome to the board. Ritch has doing some 105's/107's . I'm shooting 95's at distance. Prehapos he wil jump in here and give you some numbers.
I've shot some 105's in my AR but did not purse MAX. I was up to 29.9 of H4895 and 28 of RL15. Bot showed more room for pressure in my estimation.

Sorry to re-awaken an ancient thread, but Greg, if its not too much trouble, could you send me your min/max data for the 95 smk? I just got a brick of them and some lapua brass and need to figure out where to start. Also, what kind of velocity can i expect from an 18" barrel? I have H4895, H322, Benchmark, H335, RE15, and AR Comp on hand, and can get 8208 if i need too.
By the way, ive been wanting to share my experiences with my .243LBC so far. I got an 18" 1:8 twist semi bull barrel. I put it on an AR Stoner side charge upper, alg emr mlock 12" handguard, Anderson lower, cmmg lpk, unknown A2 buttstock/reciever extension (got it from local gun shop as an extra part from a rifle he customized for a sale), AR Stoner enhanced trigger group with JP 3.5# spring kit, Harris bipod, and i think its a UTG grip, maybe an ergo.. cant remember. And new glass is Athlon Argos BTR 6-24X50 mounted to a 20moa AR Stoner cantilever ring mount.
I have been using virgin Fiocchi 7.62x39 brass that i converted. I started with 105 Amax over H4895, and also 87 vmax over same powder. Repeatability has been spotty at best, perhaps due to the quality of brass, or perhaps its me. Anyway, i settled on 26 gr h4895 under the 105 amax at an average velocity of 2525 fps. Got comfortable at 550 yards with a .7 moa group at that distance, then to 1035-ish yards, measured by google maps. I then, once on target, had 5 successive hits on the retired implement disc blade. One shot, admittedly was about 1-1.5 minutes low and hit the square tubing post. I can post a pic of the disc blade if someone tells me how i can post one. This was my first venture to 1000 yards, as well. But, after i attempted the same shot with a different rifle and went back to the LBC, i had a hard time hitting the target repeatedly. Not sure why, but i blame the brass. That day i used my old Leapers UTG 4-12X40 scope.
Ive had repeatability issues with the 87 vmax as well. It would shoot good one day, then the next its less than stellar. Im hoping that this lapua brass will remedy my repeatability issues.
I can post some pics of the rifle, and targets/groups once i know how to post them, if anybody is interested.

With Lapua Grendel brass I'm using 28.6 of 8208 with the 95 SMK. I've shot up to 28.8 that was reasonable in my rifles. Make sure you measure distance to lands.
If you are using converted 7.62 brass you are in your own world for capacity and consistency.

I just got in my 243LBC barrel and was going to start load development. I have a set of Redding bushing dies that I bought for my 6.5 Grendel. I bought the proper 6mm bushing for the sizing die, but had a question on the seater die. I have the nice Redding competition micrometer seating die. Can I just use this to seat the die, or do I have to go buy a 6 ppc seater? If I cant use this 6.5 Grendel seater, is there a way to modify the internals to use it?

Chances are you are GTG with the 6.5. I use Hornady seaters with the micro top but loading a caliber smaller with any of them is usually doable. Greg

Anyone used or had luck with new Sierra 90 grain Game Changer “TGK”?
I’m running a 22” 1:8 barrel with 95 TMK now but wanted to try out the 90 for hunting.
Thanks
