Hello all, been around for a few weeks, but wanted to say hello. ......About the twist rate, I am also near the final stages of building my 264 lbc and the barrel in one of the last things I need, as far as I can tell you get a little higher pressure from the poly barrels that the 1:9 twist will stabilize even the heavier 140 grain bullets. U as I found out in my 204 ruger, the weight is not always the issue, it is the length of the bullet, my 204 did not like heavy bullets or the light 26 grain barns because they were all long bullets, but my tube is quite picky, I think BHW barrels will do all the bullets out there from talking with the staff! Hope that helps ease your mind about the twist rate!

Just found out about BHW today while doing some research for my 6.5 Grendel build. I think these barrels may be where its at. I am looking to shoot the 123g AMAX for target shooting and hunting deer out to a maximim of 600 Yds. One concern I have is that AA has a twist of 1:7.5 and the BHW twist is 1:9 will this twist be effective for my needs. Looking forward to your comments. I will do the 123's and will do fine for your needs. The pressure on a poly rifled barrel is LOWER than on the standard Enfield type. Velocities for a given charge weight tend to be higher as you get less resistance as the engraving is not as drastic and a lot more gentle to the bullet in general. Greg

My bad on the pressure, but the 264 you all make will stabilize the 140's right?

My bad on the pressure, but the 264 you all make will stabilize the 140's right? I have not seen any load data for bullets heavier than 123 as I perused the loading sites. I personally think the velocities would be below optimal for that weight bullet. Greg PS: Lets move over to the 264 area of the AR Forums and it will get more information. IMHO

Thanks for all the quick relplies I cannot wait to get one of these barrels ordered.
Now to get all the details ironed out I will be posting on a more appropriate board to figure more out the capabilities of BHW.

Does BHW offer a faster twist option for their barrels in the 264 lbc like say a a 1:8.5, and I also looked for the data for heavier bullets and could not find data, but I know berger makes some 140's so there must be a load info out there somewhere....I need to keep looking for this data...

I'm a little behind but I know for a fact that the 129 SST and 120nosler bt stabilize fine and work fabulously at making nice clovers at 100 yards.
One member here has some brass ready to load and I'm going to get some 140~ loads set up to try.
In the poly, I think the 9 would be similar to the 8.5 enfield.

No faster than 1:9 at BHW at this time in that bore. Just because the bullet exists does not mean it is applicable to a given cartridge. They make 220 grain 308's but no one loads the in the 30 Carbine. Those same thing could be said about a 300 grainer in a 45 ACP. One can always work up their own loads but many times the powder companies have tried and found the compatibility is not there. I think you will find that the big bullet eats up too much case capacity and the length of the projectile is just not going to allow the stabilization to take place at the velocities available. On a marginal bullet we can push them faster in some cases and make up for the slower twist. This one isn't going to give you that extra oomph you need. A 1:8 might do it but as they are not available vaporware won't help any of us. I want to shoot some big 6's but I need the 1:8 also and as long as I don't have one the 107 or so is the best I'm going to get. If it shows up I'm ordering up a reamer and will go hog wild with it. Until then my 1:9 will carry the mail for the Gold. Greg

The biggest I've seen guys shoot is the 130 but the 123's in the AMAX are supersonic at 1000 and the SCENARS shoot even better. They will meet any needs I will ever have. Greg

The search for hunting bullets with a good bc, lands me in the 130 gr class, do you have any experience with JLK bullets, there is a 130 gr bullet with a bc of 620, but if it is a really long bullet, that would take up too much space in the case! I also like the sicorro 2, but it is in a 130 gr also, any idea which bullet would be shorter?
