I would like to use 100gr Sierra bullets in a 6mmx45. I need to push them to 2500 FPS or better to get them to do what I want. Is this possible?
In Sierras load book they don't list 100gr for the 6mmx45. If they can be used where can I get the load data?
I plan to use one of your 18" barrels for this build.
Thank you much for your time.

Hodgdon and Accurate both list a 100 grain bullet for the 6X45. Hodgdon loads longer than mag length and gets 2400-2600 out of a 24" barrel and pressures are OK. You will have to single load these. Accurate lists around 2500 or so with a note to decrease for shorter barrel lengths. My math splitting the difference is about 6% off the 24" speeds. They do load to mag length but the pressures are up a bit more than the Hodgdon boys. I think 2500 will be a real push with any case life expectancy. The poly barrel will get you about 75 FPS but I think that you also may hit some stability issues with a 1:9. I have tried the 105's and they key holed badly. I've shot some 90's and did OK so somewhere in the middle is the breaking point. Just out of curiosity why 100's? If it is deer I can say that some of the 85's and 90's will do the trick. Greg PS: Welcome to the BHW family. Enjoy and jump in with both feet. PPS: Here is a big PDF from Preadtor Masters that wll give you an overview. I've found it helpful for some of my 6X45 things lately. www.blackholeweaponry.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=promo&thread=912&page=1#6683

Glshooter I us the 100gr pro-hunters in my 243s and they work great on game and paper. I run them around 2700 FPS plus with 41grs of reloader 22. Out of my Encore I get about 3/8 of an inch. My Savage will do about a half inch with the same load. Oh, that's at 100 yards.
If I can't use the 100gr in the 6X45 I will have to stock the 85gr HPBTs as well as the 100gr I already stock. I have like 1000 of them. I really don't want to have to use 85gr bullets. I am running out of room. I have to stock stuff for my 45s, 308s, 223s, 358, 44s, 357, 380, 9mm, 243s and the shot guns.
What I try to do is work up a load for each of my guns and stick with it. It is always nice when you can use the same load for a couple of guns. It cuts down on stocking so much stuff.
Sierra states in their data book that you need a one in eight twist or faster for their 107 HPBT Match Kings. If the 1X8 works for them then it should work for the 100gr.
I don't want a 24" barreled AR. I can go with a 20" and that sounds long for an AR to me. I think of an AR as a quick handling short barreled rifle.
dr69er thank you much for the ram shot book. That should help. You all have a great day.

That should help. You all have a great day. I hear you on simplify/consolidate. I'm hanging stuff from the ceiling now!! The problem is the 1:8 isn't offered by BHW. I hope that changes as there is a tremendous interest in it. A 20" would make your life a lot easier for your quest in velocity. I've not shot that bullet but I might try it for groups down the road. I have a bunch of the 95 Noslers for my 243 Winchester that might be a fun one to try also. I figure I can get 2950 or so out of my 24" 6X45 with them. Greg
