I currently have an older Colt Hbar II and am looking to build a 6mm or 6.5mm upper for it so that I can use it for deer hunting and informal long range rifle matches. I keep going back and forth between 6x45 and .264lbc (and now you've thrown 6x6.8 into the mix). My question is, if I go .264lbc can I just get a new bolt and use my existing (5.56) Colt bolt carrier?

This is a great place to be. And the barrels aren't bad either!! ;D Greg

And am I to understand that BHW sells bolts along with their barrels? I am looking to spend as little as possible but still get a nice accurate upper. I like the 6.5 bullets with their higher B.C.'s. I'm thinking a high rail upper with a BHW .264 barrel (20" standard weight) and a simple ff forend. I won't need any tacti-cool stuff, just a tack-driver with some portability.

You can get your 264 lbc bolt from Tactical Ammunition.....I just ordered a 264 lbc from BHW a few days ago. and I ordered my Dragon Head Muzzle brake and bolt from TA.......I too enjoy to shoot but was looking for a deer gun....to me the 264 was a better choice as I hunt white tail and plan to go west and hunt mulies.......but I do know in a current issue of Shooting time long range edition it shows a person that took an elk also.....I do not think the 6mm would be up for the challenge....with that said.....shot placement is most important.....they took many elk with a 30/30........so it can be done...but shot placement is key....For me, I chose the 264....good luck with the caliber you choose!!

BHW doesn't sell bolts with their barrels. Sources could be Model 1 Sales, Surplus Ammo Supply, Ranier, Anderson, and Tactical Ammunition. Greg
