Hi folks, noob here thinking about a 6x68 barrel. Several questions for those with experience: 1/ Most talk regarding this caliber focuses on long range target work / varminting. What is the advantage / preference for standard barrel contour vs bull contour for accuracy, shooting it hot ( pd town ) ? 2/ Is there a standard ogive length to help determine OAL of the cartridge? Do you prefer "in the lands" vs 10 or 15 thou off ?? 3/ For the 6x68 do you use 223 mags or must you use 6.8 or 6.5 Grendel mags ? Your spin would be appreciated.

The 6X68 is a great all around cartridge. It has been my experience that a standard weight barrel will work for almost all applications. Those shooting the bull barrels are doing so because their rifle is being used for target work. Greg's rifle weighs 14 lbs. and it has 3 lbs. of lead in the stock. The original intent of this cartridge was and still is for hunting. With a 58 gr Vmax and some CFE 223 in it will run with a 22-250. The barrel has to be 24 inches long to accomplish this, but so is the 22-250 barrel. Not bad from an AR. We are all using 6.8 magazines. Most 5.56 mags will only feed 2-3 rounds. More than that in the magazine and it won't feed. Fortunately mags from C Products, ASC mags and Stoner mags from Midway are inexpensive. All of the above mentioned mags will let you load to 2.300. I have found 2.275 has been the sweet spot in my barrels.

and to answer your #2:
I would bet that you're not going to reach the lands if you stay in mag length.
