Thought I'd see what you guys think, this is a 20" 308, barrel from Rainier (Select model, which is BHW) This is typical, I've really seen a pattern. The first shot, even from a clean barrel, then from a cold barrel, is very accurate. In this photo, there are 4 rounds, which are circled, all fired from a cold and/or clean barrel. The 3 fliers are all 2nd rounds fired. So 7 shots total. For 6 of them I loaded 2 rounds and fired, then let cool. The last one was by itself, just to prove that it wasn't the position in the mag that was doing it. The 2 shots in upper right is the same load, just seated shorter. There's a very narrow window where it shoots well, with this bullet or the 150 sgk. 110 vmax seem to do the same thing, though I've only shot 5 of them so far. Had 3 in one hole with 2 fliers, and the fliers are never in the same direction but random. Trying to determine whether to keep this barrel or send it back for a refund. The accuracy seems promising, and if you only need one shot it's very accurate. Oh, one other thing. The last time to the range it did the same thing with the 150's. Then I shot a group with cheap fmj ammo, then back to the 150 handloads, which then shot horribly. Seems to be a very fickle barrel. What do you think?

Having been involved in some extensive testing on this barrel type, I would ask that you try some factory 165,168 grain loads in it and let me know
Thank you Carl Owner

Having been involved in some extensive testing on this barrel type, I would ask that you try some factory 165,168 grain loads in it and let me know Thank you Carl Owner I've shot quite a few Fed GMM 168's with very similar results. Can get decent 3 shot groups on once in a while, but never 5. I haven't tried shooting them one at a time from a cold bore, but imagine the results would be much better. I also really work on my technique, and can shoot great groups with my 300 Saum upper or any of my 223/204 AR's, so I'm convinced it's not me. And tried 3 different scopes/mounts, just to eliminate that. What do you think Carl, is that profile just too light to shoot more than one at a time, or is there some weird stress in this barrel? I thought maybe barrel crown at first, but that doesn't seem right now seeing the pattern. I got a thread protector on it, but the results are the same with or without it. One great thing about this barrel is that different loads and bullets all shoot to almost the same poi, regardless of bullet weight. The 243 barrel I got from you guys shares that trait, and that's a great attribute in a rifle.

What do you think may be the issue?
I only have 1 bcg, that I share with the 243. I bought another one, but it got lost in the mail 2 weeks ago. So I can't part with that at the moment.
