I have been reading several requests for information concerning gas system length and which one is correct. I have collected some data preparing for my first build and think it may be useful. I understand it is from another barrel manufacturer: ar15barrels.com/prod/operation.shtmlI found this to be very valuable. Joe

I never payed it much mind until I got into true wildcatting on this platform. Then I got an adjustable gas block and 98% of those issues went away. I'm so stoked on them even a vanilla 223 that I might build in the future will have one. I believe that 80% of the issues are related to the rifle builder and how he does the assembly. The barrels out there, even non-BHW's, are pretty well thought out and if guys start drilling ports I think they have overlooked some basics. A bigger hammer, gas, will push things along but it won't be the most elegant way to get there from an engineering or longevity view point. Greg
