Howdy everyone-
I'm building a .264 lbc, using a bhw 24" standard profile barrel. Ordered it thanks giving , just waiting for it 2 ship. Anyways, I'm using a dpms lo-pro upper receiver. This is where the first question comes. This upper does not have m4 feed ramps, will this be a problem? I'm using a jp adjustable gas block, so this is where another question comes. I've been told 2 use an m-16 carrier to help slow the cycling and help keep it from cycling violently. Is this needed since I'm using the adjustable block, or is a standard bcg good 2 go? Also planning on ordering a type 2 bolt from tactical ammunition . Anyone have experience w/ them? I see they sell bhw barrels, so I'm assuming they're g2g. This is my first build in this caliber, so any input would be appreciated.
-Zach P.s.- I will be using a dpms lower I've already got completed.

Howdy,
Not having M4 type feed ramps may be problematic, much of it has to do with the quality of your magazine and the approach angle during stripping/feeding from the magazine Into the chamber.
You may get lucky and have no Issues (If it were a .223 Rem. you would likely have zero Issues with feeding).
Since it is a Grendel/.264 LBC cartridge being used it may have Issues feeding correctly.
You don't need a M-16 carrier, you already have a adjustable gas block to help with any potential over-gassing...BHW does a good job with correct diameter gas ports. You can also adjust BC velocity with the correct buffer weights/springs if needed... but a adjustable gas block is the best way.
The type two bolt is correct for the current .264 LBC BHW barrels.
A prostaffer can chime of course if there are any Inaccuracies.
Just my two cents, YMMV.
Good Luck

You shouldnt have any problems with the upper as long as you have good mags to run for the LBC. Some mags let the rounds tip down in the front a little when they are being stripped and may hang up. I had to modify my Stoner mags to run correctly.
I have a JP gas block also, and it will slow down the cycling rate enough for the LBC. To adjust mine I set it to where it cycles my 95gr loads and just catches the bolt on the last one, then 1/4 turn out. It puts my brass about 3-4 oclock and 4ft away in a nice pile. I also modified my screw for it so it wouldnt walk out. I took a normal socket head screw the same size as the little gas adjuster screw and put a small washer and little (but stout) spring on it. I put antisieze on it and it moves freely, but doesnt back out on its own. I measured the overall hight on it with calipers and recheck it from time to time to make sure it hasnt moved.
I have the type 2 bolt from Tactical Ammo and the only thing I had to do was take the oring out from under the extractor, it was having issues fully locking up, it was too tight on the brass. Since removing it I have had zero problems with the rifle.
Hope this helps

The M4 ramps don't do anything for the 6.5. They aren't going to guide much as the bullet/case diameter is larger than a 223. If you had an M4 lowe and a non-M4 barrel extension you would have a lip that might well cuase iisues but your combo wil be fine. The use of 6.5 Grendel mags with properly shaped lips will be fine. I have been using ASC 6.5 mags in my Grendel family cartdiges plus the same ones inthe 6.8
Tactical Ammunition and BHW work together to supply compatible products and a TYPE II bolt from them will be GTG.
I use both M16 BCG's and AR BCG's but with the adjustable GB either will do fine. That is why they are neater than pockets in pants.
I'm sure you will find your rig will run great and when it does be sure and post up some pics.

Thanks 4 all the help everyone. I will surely post pics when the barrel gets here. At least if I don't lose my mind b4 it gets here! I've been in love with this caliber since the first time I've heard of it. One more question, what mags should I go with? I've heard mixed reviews about the AR Stoner mags. Once again, thanks for the help everyone. -Zach

The Stoner mags are hit or miss. Personally I have yet to get a bad one. But the one from ASC are the way to go. Later on if you decide to build a 6.8 or a 6X68 these same mags will feed the 6.8 case as well. www.ammosc.com/

The .264 barrel is the one im really excited about, but id like 2 get the 6.8 barrel here so i can have something 2 tinker with til my barrel comes. I have a serious issue, i just cant stop building AR's! Might be time to start messing with my 700 to keep busy. Been to cold to do any shooting, so that doesnt help any.

Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone could tell me how long the average wait time is on bhw's barrels now? Ordered mine thanksgiving day and was told around 8 weeks, but no word. Im guessing this is do to the political situation causing the gun craze.

Recieved an email back from bhw. They were very appologetic about the delay and said all lead times have been pushed back a couple weeks. So looks like a lil longer of anticipatation!!!

Got the e-mail that my barrel has been sent! Should be here by Friday. Now if the bolt would come I'd be golden. Guess it's time for a follow up call.
