Another option would be to order a 7.62X39 bolt and have your barrel chambered to type 1 specs. IMHO this is the correct way to chamber this cartridge anyway. Just wondering if you could elaborate on why the .124 dp boltface is superior. I have heard of some reasons why Bill A. tested and decided to go with the .135 boltface. Thanks![/quote I never said it was superior. I said in my opinion it should be a .125 deep bolt. All this has done is make this cartridge more confusing. Not to mention having an extra .010 of unsupported case hanging out of the chamber. Also you have uncounted sources for .125 bolts. While only a few sources for the .135 option. Thanks! If .010 of un-supported case is causing problems in your chamber/resizing,there are some major problems beyond bolt face depth. I do agree that the X39 bolt can be had easier then the AA design, however with needing a modified extractor that is wider/deeper for the varying and thicker rims of the X39/6PPC parent case, that .010 extra depth can prove value in proper extraction. Take a look at an X39 extractor to an AA extractor and you will see the difference in extractor claw thickness.I think as an industry we have confused ourselves seeing the .264 LBC/6.5 CSS/6.5 Sporter/6.5 SAOD/6.5 Grendel, that use the same parent case/design. Just some thoughts..Thanks again!

I guess I better get my tools out and pull those FIVE 7.62 bolts out of my LBC's and fix them. I had no idea there was something wrong with them. I bet they shoot really well once I get them fixed. As to 0.010 making a difference I am a firm believer in belts and suspenders, but then again I am kind old at this game. It sure can't hurt and more is better in this case. IMHO. Greg

And there you have it. Votes both for types of bolts. With all due respect (and I really do have a great deal for those who have weighed in) I cannot see any reason to send a rifle back in to rechamber it so that I can use a x39 bolt. It seems, well, like a waste of time, money and effort. The gun runs with this setup just fine. To paraphrase Greg; "Gosh! I didn't know it wasn't supposed to work this well!"
The main reason I've ordered a bolt from AA is simply to have a spare in the bag, should Murphy raise his ugly head at the usual inopportune moment. And, since the die has already been cast, as far as the Type I vs. Type II issue is concerned, I got what fits the chamber of this wonderful BHW barrel.
Cheers!
David

And I agree with you 100 percent. Both chambers run with the right bolts and ammo. So shooters, like me, have different rationale on how to get performance out of our gear. At the end of the day we are all having fun and when the numbers of fingers and eyes equal the number we started with it is all good.
As to extra bolts I think that this shortage is teaching some hard lessons to many. I have at least one extra of each and am ad I do. I prefer the 7.62 bolts because all my LBC chamberings are TYPE I. A TYPE II would increase my backup needs by a bit.
Like I said we all are getting there and no ones any the worse for the wear.
Go load ammo and we can all head out the desert.

What does BHW cut their barrels for, Type I or II?

What does BHW cut their barrels for, Type I or II? By default I think it's type 2... But you can request which one

What does BHW cut their barrels for, Type I or II? Standard chamber is TYPE II. They will do a TYPE I on request. (My preference BTW) Greg

I ordered a RGuns 7.62 x39 bolt and carrier group on dec31,2012 they just charged my credit cart this week and it is shipping... I've never had issues with Rguns..and made 4 orders in the past..
a great price really....$122 for bolt and carrier..
sounds like the type 1 barrel is the way to go..

I currently have an ARP 18" 264 LBC barrel and ITS "Superbolt" sitting around, but I've decided I want a longer barrel with a heavier profile. The "Superbolt" is a 7.62x39 bolt and uses a regular barrel extension. So...
Would I be okay ordering a "Type 1" barrel from BHW and using the bolt I have here already?

I have that same exact combination. The only difference is mine has a Black Hole barrel.

How would I go about specifying a "Type 1" chamber when placing an order for a BHW barrel? When you place your order and are talking with them might be a good idea. I, myself, would rather do a phone order with an e-mail follow up. Since it will be a non-standard chamber that would be my real push to do it that way. I also think that the personal contact with the BHW staff goes a long way in understanding the process. Mine are always phone orders and I really do a follow up with an email other than to promise them cookies and milk if they get it done by Christmas. Greg

This talk about 7.62x39 bolts and 264Lbc type 1 bolts has me a little confused now.... I always thought the type 1 and the 7.62 x39 were identical and could be interchanged.. The thing that has me confused is Tactical Ammo and AR15 performance both list these as different bolts and have different stock numbers, along with a different price on the Tactical ammo site.. So is there a difference? and what is it? ar15performance.com/bolts www.tacticalammunition.com/AR-15-Upper-Parts_c97.htm
