Well its been a long wait to get in the field and hunt. We started off the morning with a big fat 0 on the first stand. So we decided to head to my buddys coal mine he works at. Well about the time we turned off the highway to head down the haul road i spot a Yote standing along a fence row that seperates a corn field from cow pasture. We park and slip down the haul road (non county road so legal to hunt off of). Once we got to a small pile of brush along the road ditch Cody hit the mouth call with a 5 second rabbit in distress. It wasnt 30 seconds i level my 20 Practical and start watching a dog barreling into us. She got to about 25 yards and i bark her to a stop. As luck would have it she stopped behind the only fallen branch. All i had was a head shot so I took a deep breath and Sent the 35 grain Berger barreling into her right ear......DIRT NAP. So we move to our next stand and about 5 minutes into the stand we see a yote a mile or better across the fields and decide to get moved and set up on her. We set up on the side of a huge spoil bank with a cross wind and set the Fox Pro Fury up wind 70 yards. We started woodpecker in distress. let it play for 2 minutes then Cody would mimic it with a mouth call, then play TT coyote breeding, then back to pecker in ditress, then mouth call. He continued this sequence for 8 minutes and this ol gal just couldnt handle it. We heard the woods erupt with crows and it got my blood going. It wasnt 2 minutes after the crows i hear Cody whistle and lay flat. I turn to see a hard charger heading after the FoxPro and Fox Jack. I stop her she turns full frontal and i send another 35gr Berger into another. She back flips and think its all over but as much as i hate to admit it she gets up and attacks the call. I put another one in her head as she was pumbling the call with 3 legs. This was shooters error. I didnt have my shooting sticks and i hit her low and off center. Catching her in the arm pit and it did serious damage. She wasnt going anywhere fast as the bullet sent shrapnal into her left lung. Needless to say her fur was shot but had to skin her to see bullet damage. We didnt get many pictures until after the hunt as we both forgot our phones on stand.
It was cold and fresh snow. Couldnt ask for a better morning
