Since there is not much discussion going on right now, I thought I would raise another topic/question about my current build. My builder is planning on using 6061 upper and lower billet receivers (made by Sun Devil I think). I read on most forums that almost everyone prefers 7075 Al and rate it much better than 6061.
Does anyone have experience with 6061? How do people on this forum feel about 6061 versus 7075?

I don't see where it will make a bit of difference one way or another at the end of the day. If the receiver/barrel is square it will shoot. I've always had good luck with the standard forged stuff. I haven't invested in the billets as I thought the extra $$'s should go to the barrel. Greg

The Sun Devil receivers are going on the build I am just started to have done with a BHW 16 inch 6.8 SPC II light with mid gas. The barrel was purchased back and January and I am hoping will shipping soon.

If people are interested, I would be glad to provide pictures as the build moves forward.

The primary advantages (provided both are heat treated) of 7075 over 6061 are:
Better Tensile Strength. Better Corrosion Resistance. Higher Brinell Hardness. Easier to machine.
While the differences are not huge they are there. As long as they are from a well known/quality manufacturer you should be OK.
Good Luck.

The receivers will be stamped as Lone Star Armory but I believe they are made by Sun Devil Manufacturing for Lone Star. The receiver set is CNC machined from 6061 Aluminum Billet. Reinforced in key areas and features an integrated upper receiver tension post to eliminate any unwanted movement between the upper and lower receivers. Integral Trigger Guard, Mil-Spec, Black Hard Coat Anodized.
Lone Star Armory is doing my build.

Mike
I am not clever enough to understand your message. I guess you need to be more clear for me.

I got a quick Jake this AM so am back home before I go back tomorrow to chase a bigger Tom. Here is a picture of the Lone Star Armory receivers they are called model TX 15. It is not a great picture, but I get a better one once I get farther into the build. This one is marked as multi caliber. Mine will be marked 6.8 SPC.

Hi Hogwild, That's a Really good looking set of Billet matched upper and lower! ;D I love the way the Billet Lowers have the built in trigger Guard made into the Receiver. I have a question for the Mods, or ( Intelligent People in here) I have a Black Rain Billet Upper and lower on 1 Build, and a Mega Machine Billet Upper and lower on my .264 LBC AR. Unless I'm mistaken Both of mine are 7075 & when I first got them I was Really Surprised at how light weight they were, but at the same time they Both seemed externally Tough & Durable. What would be the advantage of using the 6075 Rather than the one with the Higher Tensile Strength? Is it easier to stamp a Logo on one type as opposed to the OTHER type? Any information would be very much appreciated, And I am Clueless as to why they use different materials on a Billet Upper or Lower? Help me understand if you can please. Eric
