I was thinking about a deer gun for Indiana and I was looking at 450 bushmaster and it looks as if only hornady makes brass for this. It seams as if the 458 socom might have a few more options for brass and ammo. Looking for thoughts and other options for the bushmaster Brian

The same for the brass. If the brass is an issue it can be made using any of the 284 Win brass made by almost all the brass manufactures. On the other side of the coin, Starline is the only manufacture of 458 Socom brass. Also I'm not positive but I don't think the Socom has been SAMI approved. If this is true it is just another wildcat. Not that that is a bad thing, it just doesn't have industry support.

Is there a chart somewhere that tells what brass can be made into other brass? I know some of the obvious ones but I would have never of guessed that about the 450. Thanks Brian

I don't know of any chart. The easy way is just measure parent case and go from there. If you are looking for the parent case to the 458 Socom you won't find it. It is its own case. "Another strike against it".

Thanks Brian The Handloaders Manual of Cartridge Conversions by Donnelly is the bible on that. Not all the latest cartridges but the new ones are very easy to figure out with a few measurements and sometimes a Benjamin or two for the tough ones. Ritch is by far the conversion guru here. I am but a grasshopper in that venue. Greg
