Hi all. I've finally decided to try my luck building an AR. I've been searching and reading the web for weeks just on the subject of barrels since I consider a good barrel to be the foundation of any build. Finding info on barrels is easy. Finding one on the other hand... it's been a daunting task.
It's been impossible to find a barrel with the contour/profile, twist, and finish that I'm looking for. I envision my build having a 16" barrel 1:8 twist, with the HBAR/Recon profile, mid length gas system, NO Barrel lug, threaded for a flash hider, and a black finish. A sort of hybrid consisting of a BHW Standard profile forward of the gas hole, and a Bull Barrel profile behind it that I would like fluted. Or maybe a better example would be a BHW Standard barrel without the thinned out part under the foregrip. Now that I think about it, the second example might be more practical when you consider the gas block and tube having to be run down the barrel's profile.
Is it possible for BHW to make such a barrel? I'm sorry for being such a nit picky noob. I do understand that what's under the handguard won't be seen, but I would still know. LOL. And I figure it's my gun, I want it my way! And I think the straight lines are far more pleasing than varying contours.
Another concern I have that I couldn't seem to find an answer to on the site, is if the barrel's bore is raw metal or treated somehow to protect it. It doesn't appear the barrels are chrome lined. Is there some treatment offered or something I could do to help in that matter? I plan this to me my one size fits all, multi purpose gun for both hunting and plinking. So I need it to be able to stand up to humidity, the elements, bouts of being in storage, etc.
Are my expectations too high or is this a doable thing? Again, sorry for being so uninformed. I'm learning as I go, and want to be sure I'm doing everything right but still getting what I want.
