Probably 99.9% of the board members have at least one AR platform type rifle in the safe/house. Now that being said what type of bolt actions do you all have and when would you grab it over the auto guns?
I've got 204's, 223's, 243's 308's 30-06's and a 358 tucked away in the safe besides my various AR's. I go to the bolt guns because at this time I don't have anything stouter than a 25 WSSM in an AR and because I have taught for years with them I have lots of bolt type varmint rifles for PD's but have now been using a 20 Tactical almost all the time on them and use the bolt 204's to give the AR a rest.

Specialty shoots like cowboy action (you left out lever and single shots) , BPCR, military themed WW1 or WW2. Any competition that restricts autos or the AR isn't practical.
And then there are times when something like the .264 Win mag is called for and there aren't any AR's in that category and unlikely to get another one for those occasions.

The choice for competition is dictated by so many factors. Sometimes you go out to win and others you go out to have fun. I've got one good friend that loves shooting his lever guns in IPSC matches. He'll never win but he can make those Savage guns work!! He is the only guy I know that has five box magazines for a Savage 99 308.
Those fast mover Magnums are getting caught by some of the newer hot rocks AR types out there. I know my 25 WSSM is right there with the 25-06 and those are no slouch down range.
I do find a bolt gun easier to shoot for accuracy than the AR's from a purely econometric standpoint. My single shot Ruger in 300 WM is a dream to shoot and when you get use to it follow up shots can get pretty fast. I also like the camming of the bolt when it comes to shells that are neck sized only. At times they get pretty tight and the AR just will not chamber those borderline big ones.

I run several bolts, Remington 700VS in .308 is my "other" match rifle, my .50bmg is hopefully going to be my 1k yard gun, my .30-06 and .300win mag are my hunting rifles. Of course any of these can be used for the other purposes in a pinch Just to name a few

When we head out to go pd hunting I grab along with the ar's the remington 700 in 223,243, and 25-06. When I want to plink besides the ar's I grab the savage 17hmr and an old browning lever action 22. But I rarely go anywhere without the ar's.

The only bolt gun I have larger then my CZ Lux .22lr is a Weatherby Accumark in .300 wby mag. But it is currently for sale, so I have only one choice. Good thing the CZ shoots like a dream.

I have 4 AR's in a variety of flavors. I'm left handed so when I hit the deer woods, I reach for my LH Browning A-Bolt Medallion in .270 Winchester. It's never failed me and over 15+ years of using it, a lot of game from deer to elk have fallen all with one shot kills.
Having said that, I do have a LH upper on order with a .264LBC barrel and I may just start to use that in the future.

I've always thought the AR is a tad short for bayonet work. If that looked likely than the Trapdoor Springfield or Springfield '03 would be first in line.
