All current barrels are TYPE I, 7.62X39 They can be special ordered TYPE II. There's are all I's I use bolts from Tactical Ammunition or if not them DPMS or Model 1. Can you direct me to where it says that our standard is TYPE II? I need to get that fixed. Thanks Greg

Thanks Greg blackholeweaponry.proboards.com/thread/1686/head-space-264-bolts-grendelIt was recently brought to our attention that as early as May 2011 our bolt manufacturer had made changes to our 264lbc/6.5 Bolt headspace (depth of the breech space). What this means is that barrels manufactured prior to and during mid May are possibly out of spec with the new bolt pattern. Standard in Industry, the Type I, Mil-Spec, bolt pattern head space is .125”. The Type II, 6.5 Grandel® pattern, has a head space .010” deeper than that of the Type I. It is said that the Type II bolt improves the extractor’s function. Barrels manufactured prior to May are in line with the Type I bolt pattern, while newer barrels are headspaced to the Type II pattern. Email from TA states: "The 7.62x39 bolt is designed to have more firing pin protrusion than the type 1 bolt."

Email from TA states: "The 7.62x39 bolt is designed to have more firing pin protrusion than the type 1 bolt." The tail is a bit shorter for more protrusion. TA was ahead of the curve on that one doing that. For a long time all we were using was regular 7.62X39's for our LBC's as that was what was out there. I personally don't see any performance difference but with this steel cased ammo hitting I might tend to go 7.62 vs 264. Greg

I'll have to look where I got mine. I used the longer FP with a Type1 bolt. It has worked with factory primers and sized 7.62x39 brass. So far no pierced primers on reloads but I don't go too hot. I did polish (Flitz) the face of the FP.
