So I recently took the plunge and ordered a 18" 308B barrel with rifle length gas system from BHW. I am wondering if any shooters have had cycling issues with a similar set up due to the short "dwell time" between the gas port and the muzzle. The only reason I bring it up is because I recall doing a ar15 with a 10.5" barrel a few years back that was giving me problems. Come to find out, it just needed the gas port opened up a bit because it didn't have enough length to build up pressure for cycling the weapon. The 308B barrel that I ordered is that last portion needed for my build. Other parts that might be of importance regarding this issue include a syrac ord adjustable gas block, straight chrome lined gas tube, and jp silent capture buffer (I also have the alternate spring kit to play around with fine adjustments). I generally stick to 175gn pills in my 308s or possibly even 168s--will definitely not be shooting anything below 155s. If anyone would care to chime in on this it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! -Shadow

Probably a non-issue. The port may need opened but then again maybe not....only range time will tell.

Sounds good to me. I plan on doing a full range report once I get it all together and will address topics such as this. I also purchased a chrono, so velocities will be reported as well. BTW, Greg, you sure are Johnny on the spot with the quick replies. I don't think I've ever had to wait more than a couple hours for a response on this forum. Tell me... Do you even sleep? Haha!

I multitask. Right now I'm babysitting so it doesn't take all my attention to keep Armageddon at bay. Some answers I leave for others or have to research my notes or the net. My Google Fu is strong. I live and breathe this stuff. I read constantly and am a bit analytical. Few questions are new unless you step off into the latest and greatest XYZ models. I'm old school. I try not to throw money around like a whirling dervish. I try to figure how to get the best bang for my buck. I'll pay for quality but I won't pay for prettier smoke and mirrors. Greg
