Hi all.
Well as I said I am new here. I have been shooting all my life, and I have had AR-15s for quite a long time. (35 years+) I have had only Colts, and while I enjoy shooting them.
But they were always just plinkers for me, rabbits and squirrels, but I would use a 30-6 or my good old Winchester (Made in 1932 mind you) Model 92 30-30 for anything larger.
Then life changed for me, in 2007 I was in a motorcycle accident, I can't complain much, after t-boning a Left turning honda accord at 35MPH, I was able to walk home, but my shoulder took a bad hit, and I had to have it rebuilt......and the doctors says, no heavy recoil for me anymore.
My shoulder is much better now, but I had to give up golf, and I have never shot my 30-6 or any of my shotguns. (I am storing them for my Boys).
So this has sent me on the quest for a deer rifle that can take a deer (Or maybe even a Elk close in) and my research brought me to the AAC 300 Blackout, and my first AR-built. I bought a Anderson upper and lower and a BHW 300 barrel.
I am hoping the rifling used by BHW will help in achieving a higher muzzle volatility, being less evasive then traditional lands and groves.
But when one beings down the road with a relatively new round, you get to be a pioneer, while they do get all the glory, they also get arrow in the ass as well. Needless to say this build (My first) has not gone without issues.
What I have learned so far, is that the 300 in subsonic (205 200Gr) is made to function properly only with a suppressor, without it, there will be insufficient pressure to run the BCA to lock open on the last shot and may short stroke.
I further found that, even if it is meant to work just by replacing the barrel on a 556/223, the buffer needs to be heavier (a 4 oz. unit) to get it to function right.
It's a learning curve, and I am still working out the bugs, hopefully I have it knocked.
Next weekend I will take her out again and let you'all know.
