I finally got my barrel from Black Hole Weaponry, what a beautiful piece of work! I completed my 7mm-08 deer slayer.
This thing went together easily, everything fit just as it should, bolt headspaced with no trouble, passed all the function checks. Not having to time a barrel nut or align a hand guard == priceless. BHW added a second set screw dimple for me which lined up absolutely perfectly with the Syrac gas block (distance between centers is 0.500").
Here's the build list:
MEGA 308 MTS Megalithic upper and lower Geissele SSA-E UCWRG Grip in OD CTR in OD "Standard" 7 inch buffer tube, Mil Spec, 7075 DPMS 308 buffer and spring Noveske STS 60 degree selector
BHW 7mm-08 16" barrel, standard profile, black oxide finish Syrac Gen II adjustable gas block Spike's melonite gas tube Manticore Arms Eclipse flash hider RCA 308+ BCG AXTS Raptor charging handle
Weighs in at just over 8.5 pounds.
Hopefully I'll get to shoot it this week. I'll post an update when I do.
Ok, I took it to the range today. Everything went great. Fired the first shot, brass ejected at about 1:30, closed off the Syrac about 75%, brass now ejects at 4 o'clock. That was easy! Spent casings look great, no extractor bite marks or scuffs, necks still well formed.
I did chrono some rounds, just the few different kinds I had. Again, 16" barrel. Distance from the muzzle to the chronometer was about 10 feet.
