Greg, My goal is going long and delivering enough energy for warm targets from an AR-15. Basically, I'd like to squeeze maximum long range performance from the 6.8 case... Would be interested in load data on any proven performers, and I would like to run some numbers through a ballistics calculator. However, I wasn't sure on the limitations for bullet length. I would also do some shooting at the 100 yard line, since that is tops for the public ranges in my local area. Unless you are dead set on a 6.5, check out what the 6mm version will do. Long range kills with the 6x6.8 are easy with the right components. Sounds good, I am considering either the 6 SPC or the 6.5 SPC. Just trying to figure out the ideals loads and performance for both so I can make a good decision. Is there any chance you could provide some guidance in selecting components for a 6mm load? Do you know if the 105 gr A-Max too long for the 6mm?

If you are wanting to shoot the heavies forget the 6.8 case. By the time you seat the bullet deep enough to fit in a 2.300 magazine your case is already lacking capacity to push the heavy bullets fast enough to make a long range shot. One of the biggest drawbacks are the polymer tipped bullets. The tip usually measures around .100 long. That's a mile in a magazine that limits you to 2.300 The next problem is bullet choice. If you would like some eye opening results, run the numbers on a 6mm 95 grain Sierra MK at 2950 FPS. Then check the 105 Amax at 2750 FPS. You will see the heavy bullets don't really work in a magazine. ( By the way those are true velocities from a 243 LBC ) In the 6x6.8 try the 87 grain VLD or the 90 grain Berger target bullets. Remember loose the tip and gain capacity. This is true for all the 6.8 based variants. If you must shoot the big bullets you would be better off using the Grendel case. The capacity is the same but the shape of the case ( short and fat ) lets the long bullets fit in the magazine.
