I've been looking at building a AR10, was about to pull the trigger and buy a Aero M5 upper and lower today
and order a 260 Remington barrel from BHW but I had to ask a few people about this and everyone I've talked to is at
a 50/50 with half saying to get a 6.5 Creedmoor. So my question is why the 6.5cm? whats the advantage? Some people
telling me that the bullet is seated out of the powder on the 6.5 cm and giving better accuracy. Is this true? Others have told me that the 260rem holds more powder and feeds better in a AR10. I asked my father about this and he
simply said " If you plan on reloading then go with the 260 rem but if not then the 6.5 cm is a better choice".
I know I can neck up a 243 and neck down a 308 to make 260 rem and I do have alot of 308 brass with nothing better to do with it
but what can the 6.5cm be made out of? whats your opinion here on the forum? The rifle will be used for paper punching
at the most 880 yds and more importantly used as a jump gun for white tails when walking the tree line with a square mile of tall grass.

Ballistically identical. The Creed will shoot longer bullets without eating up case capacity. More factory match equivalent ammunition in the Creedmoor. 6.5 can be made from 243, 260 and 308.
Lapua makes 260 so brass quality is not a problem. I might think the Creedmoor might be a bit more reliable but you either shoot Hornady brass or make your own.

Hmm still not sure witch way to go on this one. But I do have time to really think it over, the wife has agreed to building a new shop out back.
It'll be a small 12x24 but make a good home for the lathe and mill. Was thinking of putting in a small partition for a reloading room.
Thanks for your response I may go with the Creedmoor.

Look at the 6.5X47 Lapua also. It does everything the Creedmore will do and the brass is the best for obvious reasons, its made by Lapua. Black Hole chambers for both of these rounds, but you will have to call to get the 6.5X47. It's not listed on their web site, but they have the reamers.
Don't discount the tried and true 260 Remington. I barrel I have shoots like a dream. 1/2 inch groups are the norm.

The more I think about this the more I leaning towards a bolt gun and scrap the ar10 idea. With that being said I think I would like the 260 or maybe even a 260 ackley. But realistically the 260 ackley don't seem to offer a big advantage and
wouldn't be worth the time in forming and short barrel life. Anyone here ever build a 260 out of a savage long action? Any pro's over using it compared to a short action?

I can see that it would be. I saw a savage model 11 lightweight for around $600 it was stainless satin finish. The bolt and overall appearance of the action has me pulled in. I'm trying real hard not to buy it just for that lol.

if you reload and go with the LA you can load your bullets out further into the lands if you want. either action would be good though. i shoot the 6.5cm in the model 11.

Bruce I load into the lands with my 260 without any problems in my SA Savage. If I was using i5 for hunting I still would be able to reach them at magazine length depending on the specific bullet of course. Greg

You won't need a long action, or should we say long magazine to reach the lands with any of the cartridges mentioned above. That being said it would work just fine. If you get a great deal on a long action grab it up.
