I posted this on the Armory a couple days ago. I got bored today and could go...or should say I didn't want to go hunting on a cold, windy and rainy day. So I started a project that I have been wanting to try for a while. I made some 1911 grips out of Walrus Ivory, from a walrus I killed a couple years ago. Please be honest and tell me what you think, they are a bit slick, but that was expected. I cut off a piece just large enough for the grips I then cut it in half Traced a set of grips Cut out the tracings and flattened even out the grips, then rounded them out roughly. I then drilled the holes for the grips after finding the right size and gradually worked up to the correct diameter, so I would crack the ivory. Then I tried them out to see if they actually fit! I then found some of the parts that needed correcting and slimmed down the grips to where I liked them. Finally, I gave them a good polish and installed the screws.

Those grips turned out great!
The R1's are nice guns, a buddy of mine had one and it had a decent trigger for an 80 series gun.
