With the IMR8208 with the best load being at the lowest load of my test should I load down from there? Here's a picture of what I ended up with. And the IMR4895 the best was at 23.9gr should I load a new test going 2 grains down and up? Lerms

I am guessingthese are the 69 SMK?
I would adjust the bullet depth on the first one as they are all horizontal. I would not load lower. Vertical means it wants more speed usually. I would also wonder if you were getting some wind effect on these.
The second one would be worth a try at + or - 0.2
I always shoot two groups with mine. I only shoot one if I am in a hurry. I also use a chronograph. It's too slow I want to know it going in.

ok so I'll adjust the depth of the bullet on the 8208. Should I seat it lower or farther out, when I get the chance I'll check the distance to the lands. Yes they are all 69 smk. The wind was steady at 10mph but with jumps in the 15-20 range.

If we can it is not unusual for us to go 0.005 into the lands. Greg

ok I measured the distance to the lands using the sinclair tool with the 69gr SMK, my OAL is 1.964. Then I checked my load book for the distance to the ogive of the 69gr SMKs I fired it was 1.877 that leaves a jump of .087. Even with ASC mags
I don't think I'll reach the lands. This loads COAL was 2.260.

I checked my ASC mags the ID is 2.314, this still leaves a .033 jump. But it is nice knowing that I can load out another .054 or to 2.3 to leave alittle room.

Greg I was thinking of trying the 69 and 77 nosler HPBT. I also have a few hundred 77 SMKs sitting here to try out. Have you ever used matchburners? been looking at them to. lerms

Ah yes a documented 18" rifle length. Those problems don't exist. Greg Can't say that I've witnessed them. On any given match weekend I shoot against 60-80 guys, over 70% of them have rifle length gas systems on 18" barrels. Many are also running a 16" barrel with an intermediate gas system (longer than mid, shorter than rifle), I personally have over 6k rounds through one without malfunction.

Over the years I've gotten more than one PM about it on other boards. I haven't had a KABOOM in a 45 ACP yet either but I saw several back in the Good Old Days. I have seen a couple AR's with split uppers over the years too. Greg
