what are your thoughts on the 243 as a target round and as varmint round thanks I have a couple and they destroy PD's with 70's. They are an excellent long range round with the heavies. Lots of romp and stomp for what you get in performance. Mine is a 700 Varmint with an HS precision stock and a top end Jewel trigger. AS close to a good PR as I have on a Remington. Target wise they are excellent but hard on barrels for surgical precision. They are not something that you want to burn a hundred rounds through at a setting. Of course with the Savage barrels so easy to change and not expensive they are a very reasonable deal compared to my 700's. You'd have fun with them and they are easy to load for. Greg

FWIW I have an old Rem 700 in .243 that I got from my dad when he passed several years ago. I love it. It is a great little deer rifle for me and is a smoking Coyote rifle at a distance. I can get better velocities than the 22-250 with 55gr bullets. I am learning that it is incredible with the 70-80gr bullets for paper and Coyotes too!
